Retractable Turret - Fryslanboy - 07.06.2009

Does anyone know, if there is a mod for a retractable turret, like the B-25, B-24 and the B-17?? It looks strange when you take off with a turret under your plane, while it's for the half of the turret under the ground

Not 100% sure, but I think the B-24 is the only one that had this feature. It seems that it could be tied to the gear retraction key - gear up, turret comes down, gear down, turret is retracted.

There's quiet a few aircraft in IL-2 that had retractable turrets & hatches (including the B-25), but they have all bin disabled ether by Oleg or the AAA team when the planes where made flyable.

As you said Razor, the easiest way would probably be to tie that function to the gear up/down command, all though it would be nice to have a separate command. (cheesy grin Big Grin )

yes, but maybe, someone can merge it into the bombaydoors mod, just like they did with the doors of the Spitfire.... Idea

In my game, with mods enabled, they work just fine on the B-25. Lowering when under attack and retracting during normal flight.

Correct, the B-17 did not have this feature, and the B-25s already have it in game

... to me a binding to the "lower seat function" as given on carrier planes looks pretty appealing. Although I can't tell s**t about the games' handling of altered positions regarding pilot/armor/shrapnel effects.

Phew, just recalled that story of a doomed B-24 unable to retract its belly turret so all remaining crew had to consciously sacrifice their team mate when pancaking in. :?
