Start-Up Problem - gumball360 - 19.06.2009
Ok, I have had this problem ever since I installed IL-2. It never really bothered me too much, but I just wanted to know if there was a solution.
Here is what I do when starting the game:
-Click on the icon from the desktop
-Wait for it to load
-HERE is where the problem is. Now that the game has loaded, and it goes to the menu screen, I can't move my mouse on the screen. The only way I have gotten it to work is to minimize the screen, and bring it up again. It works fine after that.
So is there any way to get past this problem? It's not a big deal, but it does get annoying.

Hey I have the same problem too. No, sorry I don't really think its fixable, its not too bad considering all I have to do is press the Windows key then get back into il2. Hopefully someone else may have a clue but for now I guess your stuck

No, AFAIK it's [CTRL+ESC] to desktop and clicking the game in the taskbar.
IL2 doesn't like it when it's forced into background operation, that's why others get the same problem when doing things in the time IL2 starts up, like quickly activating TrackIR or Ventrilo. That's the reason I suspect maybe a driver or another programme does "activate" itself once every few seconds, which would force IL2 into the background. Could be a virus-scanner or a mouse driver or who knows what. But that's just my suspicion.
[EDIT]I've never tried it, but in another game (Operation Flashpoint) it helped if the mouse pointer was moved to the top-left of the screen, just after clicking the shortcut on the deskyop. But that issue involved two mouse pointers.

Are you using the direct-to-drive version? I had that problem but it disappeared when I updated the computer and got the DVD game version.

Yeah, I got the direct download from Ubisoft.
Thanks for the replies, guys. Like I said, it's not that big of a deal. It's not gonna ruin my IL-2 experience or anything

Il2 will do that sometimes a lot, sometimes not at all, but especially when you or your computer performas an operation at certain stages of the load, at other stages the game will shut you out unles your opted out of the closed load before that stage.
Anyway, the cure is, press your "Windows" key, which will minimise IL2 to the taskbar. Then click on the tab on the taskbar it minimised to to re-open it, and your mouse fokus (functionality) will be restored, as you said you did. There is nothing wrong with the game or your computer, so you dont have to worry about that.
Troubleshooting what process or preference is causing this to happen is not going to be worth the benifit, so its just something you get used to. When I launch IL2 (and by now, with so many mods, it can realy take a while to load), I immediately click on my desktop or another window, and I can then carry on with other work while it loads. To focus it I just click, windows-button, and click again, and I can play. I supppose that's turning a frown upside down...

Yeah, I definitely have gotten use to it. But at least I know I'm not alone
