Force DirectX instead of OpenGL?? - Keenefx - 19.06.2009

Does anyone know of a way to force IL2 to use DirectX instead of OpenGL?

The IL2set seems to be forcing me to use OpenGL and now the game closes before it starts.

Try this,go into main game folder, click on setup, chose direct x,save, right click on config ini go to Properties,go down to the bottom where it says attributes, check the Read-only box, click apply in the bottom right corner, see if game starts with direct x applied. If this works remember if you ever need to edit the config ini you need to uncheck Read-only for the edit and then make it Read-only again after edit.

So you tried changing it ingame to DX right? and it just doesn't stick roger?

Right, I changed it to DirectX in IL2set and each time I go back to it, it says OpenGL again.

So I tried the "read only" option, and agian OpenGL.

Ok, so I just tried opening Google Earth in OpenGL mode only and it failed.

atioglxx.dll Error SOLUTION FOUND - Keenefx - 19.06.2009

I can't believe I missed this. Boy this is remedial.

I restarted my computer in Safe Mode.

Opened Device Manager in Safe Mode and I had a "ghosted" monitor.

To be on the safe side I removed both and restarted the computer.

I then tried Google Earth in OpenGL mode only and it worked, whereas earlier it hadn't.

I then tried IL-2 and it worked!!

Oh, video card is ATI 9550

NOW I'M FORCED TO USE OPENGL - Keenefx - 20.06.2009

For some reason IL-2 is not letting me use DirectX option, even in the IL2set.

OpenGL seems to run at such high levels that the game is slow as hell.

use vista64?

I had a similar problem and I solved it by making sure I had set "full" control to all users & system (Admin, everything) in my properties (of IL2 exe). I also tried the "read only" solution but it was only part of the problem...

So let me just ask this, please no live rounds Wink What if he made a backup copy of the conf.ini, renames it to confX.ini and deletes the OGL lines in the conf.inin that he uses in the game, will that work? I know this is not the way to address this issue and my question is left field, I'm just wondering?

*Update*

This is on a XP machine, and I had screwed with the conf.ini file, but I was just winging it.

So after reloading latest video drivers, etc. it still did not work; then I put gun in mouth and re-installed.

I reinstalled expecting I would lose all save info, key settings, mods etc. but it all stayed, and better yet the graphics issue was fixed!

I am now up and running, except for buttonizing my Fighterstick and Throttle. Once it is done, I will make it available to others, as I have not seen a strictly CH Fighterstick and CH Pro Throttle map yet.

Thanks
