A Vichy French Campaign - Vultures of Dakar - Cracken - 20.06.2009

A Vichy fighter pilot campaign for Hawk 75 (P-36) over Dakar in 1940-42.

This is a 20-mission semi-historical (well 3/4 is semi-historical, the last 1/4 is semi-fictional) campaign
for a Vichy fighter pilot in Dakar in 1940-42. Defend the colony against the Allied onslaught during the
"Operation Menace" in September 1940 and then guard the interests of the "French State" in the following years.

Hi Cracken,

Great campaign!

However, I have one major problem: there is a BIG stutter when I fly around Dakar! My FPS drops every once in a while from 40 to 1. It really interrupts the game flow

Perhaps this a problem with the map or with the egyptian objects (too many dead crocodiles :wink: ?)?

This is the first time I have this problem.

What is your advice?

Does it happen when ships shoot at you? If so I have the same problem... You should decrease the game details (maybe resolution), it could help. I think it is the matter of hardware I can not solve...

Happens only over Dakar and close to the airfield...otherwise no problem with shipgunfire (even with Buffy's flakmod :wink: )

No problem with other campaigns or missions (have quite number made by Cracken and they just run fine)

guess it is a problem with the map...

Just a question, have you got Egyptian objects mod installed? Agracier released two versions of Dakar - the one with Egyptian objects and Lite version without it... I bulit the campaign on the map with Egyptian objects, this could be it...

I am not sure. I made it for Dakar with Egyptian objects. Trying the "Lite" version might cause an interference. But I am not too sure... You could try it anyway.

Hi, I want to share my thoughts with you:

When I was making it the biggest problem was with choosing the best "Skua replacement". I tried many tactical bombers (e.g. TBF, SBD, B6N2 etc.) and at the end I selected three candidates to choose from (but with a few remarks/objections/comments).

a) Fairey Battle - very similar to Skua BUT lacking good firepower, and more importantly neither nimble nor agile as a fighter, in fact a "sitting duck" and an easy prey... :???: shame.

b) Su-2 - quite looking as Skua, I had some skins, but I was not satisfied with using it in fighter role, so I used it only as a "bomber Skua" in some missions, not the same easy target to bring down as Battle, but not a very tough opponent anyway

c) R-10 - the worst in its resemblance, but a realy tough opponent and a good choice for fighter role, so this was chosen as a "Fighter Skua" - I needed a plane that could match the H 75 (P-36). If I added Su-2s and Battles it would be only shooting turkeys and it would not bring any amusement as the Skua was the work horse of the FAA during the Operation Menace.

I hope you understand my choice. Shame we don't have a modded Skua!

I understand perfectly! i was just asking because i knew smbdy started working on the Fulmar, as carrier fighter, so i wanted to know why at least the battles weren't choosen for this "bomber" role. No more!

Btw as i already said missions look great!
