[pics] Curtiss P-40C Tomahawk & Polikarpov I-16 Type 24 - Fight2FlyPhoto - 22.06.2009
Man! What a fantastic day this was!! I was so happy to see that Tomahawk on Saturday, I could hardly contain myself! The pilots did an amazing job, providing some great "banana passes" to get a good, close view of the aircraft. I love it when Bud Granley does his low, scraping-bugs-off-the-runway passes with the other warbirds, but if you're not in the front row, you can't see the planes! It was a nice change to see the pilots coming in a bit higher and closer in. Good job!
Here are a few of my favorite pics from Saturday:
Here comes the P-40C Tomahawk and I-16 Rata
Tomahawk
Opening pass, with the I-16 leading a nice tight formation pass. This gives a good comparison of the size difference of these two aircraft.
Coming in from the right, here is the beautiful Curtiss P-40C Tomahawk
Here comes the Polikarpov I-16 Type 24 Rata!
Coming from the left, the Tomahawk again, showing off its nicely scratched and scraped paint
A bit of a view of the underside
From the right again...
Last formation pass, this time with the Tomahawk leading the Rata
Taxiing back from a perfect flight!
All shut down, pilot climbing out
And this was a nice bonus, before the planes fired up. A nice new 777 for British Airways. (Notice the Cessna in the background)

Great stuff, Fight. I was right behind you for most of the time at the Fly Day. I was going to go over and talk to ya but I saw you were talking to some other guy who was wearing a flight jacket.

Excellent as usual F2F, I heard the planes fly over and whom ever said the I-16 sounds like a washing machine on steroids was right hock: Thanks for putting up your photos, I'm becoming a fanboy

Thank you, everyone! I'm glad you enjoy the photographs!
Ruger - Yeah, that Rata certainly has a unique sound, alright! Next up will be the video of the event, so everyone can enjoy the wonderful sounds of that Shvetsov in the Rata and Allison in the Tomahawk.

Haha, I thought that was you!! Yeah, I have no idea who that guy was talking to me in the nice flight jacket... but he introduced my girlfriend and I to his entire family and all of his friends. Friendly fellow.
I'll come over and say hi next time. I am bad with faces and have a habbit of saying hellow to the wrong peolpe. lol So now I've kind of quit.
Anyway, you gonna be there next weekend for the Hurricane and Mustang? (do I even have to ask?)
Also, on an unrelated note, the Dreamliner will be doing taxi tests next weekend in preperation for its first flight on Monday or Tuesday!

Awesome! Next weekend Katie (my GF) and I will bring our own chairs and probably sit down at the north end of the rope line. We'll try to be more out of the way over there and hopefully a bit more elbo room. I'll probably wear my usual Blue Angels hat again. lol

Roger that. I'll be in my typical Bodney Blue shirt.
I'll find ya. I'll be wearing my Mariners Hat and Aviators as well. 8)

Is it just me, or is the Tomahawk's armoured glass plate a little loose? Wouldn't fancy that thing coming off in a steep climb or loop and socking me one...
Beautiful photography (as usual), I knew the I-16 was small but those photos really show just how tiny it is.

Interesting... I noticed that too when I was processing the pictures. Anyone know if it's adjustable at all?
