That video really bring something important into focus. As game players, we shoot at enemy aircraft at far longer ranges than they did in ww2. Look how tiny the target is in most cases. The real footage shows enemy planes up close.

In IL2 amount of bullets left is not a question of life and death. You can always start again if you die. I agree with you.

You can have computer sights of anything you like, but I think you have to go to the enemy on the shortest distance and knock him down from point-blank range. You'll get him from in close. At long distance, it's questionable.

Ranges of 300+ is wasting ammo imho.
Still IL2 is not the real thing, and with the AI being capable of doing weird things sometimes, it's unfortunately needed to open fire at such distance.

Pilots were taught that if your target's wing tips were not touching the outer ring of your sight you were too far away to do enough damage with a short burst.
The weapons in WW2 aircraft also had short barrels which reduces long range accuracy
