Grimea Map - zmey-74 - 30.06.2009
Dear Sirs!
Strongly want to retexture the Crimean map---sick and tired to fly over silly cartoonish default Crimean landscapes.. Crimea is my homeland and i'd like to say that it looks different(seems Maddox never been to Crimea)...so..maybe someone will do this work? i wish i would do it myself but i have nor experience nor free time for this((((( i think it would be greet to take LOCK ON terrain textures...just replace default FB textures by LOMAC textures..they are much more realistic(i know what i'm talking about-i flew over the Crimea in reality many times)
P.S. You guys are doing the great work..your mods reincarnate IL-2 FB,and show how much we can do for improving oldfashion outdated... but the best simulator

The problem with Eastern type of fields, and especially the huge wheat fields in Ukraine, is that they are bigger than the texture files themselves, making them hard to represent accurately in this game. This is something I realised while testing Map_T modifications on the Kuban map. The best solution at the moment is to use the small fields from Slovakia/Bessarabia, which work better for Western Europe landscape, but unfortunately we can't have a Lock-On type of terrain in FB.

I agree with what Porco says.
However, the shots I've seen of the Crimea - at least the Southern seacoast - have some unique scenery. If you can post some shots of the Crimea, it could help us all, Zmey. There may be some ways of using stock textures or Google Earth textures to portray the Crimea a lot better.

there are the photos made from 1000-1500 meters above the sea level.season- midsummer(end of june-beginning of august)... the Crimean mountings and Southern coast looks like that(too similar to LOMAC terrain textures)...i marked the places,wich you can see on the photos, with red marker on google map...as we see,Google Earth give us true picture of crimean landscape and its colour gamma...

Or you can fiddle around a bit with some textures from other maps.
I used vpmedia's retextured Crimea map and combined it with Viking4570's great Crete map textures.
I've been experimenting a bit with it (just for fun) and here are some screenshots.
It has some similarities with your photo's I think:

Good job Lejo, that's really not bad at all ! With some more forests and better placement of 'cliffs' textures, this could actually be very good indeed !

Zmey, I remember reading somewhere that the landscape in the Crimea changes as you leave the southern coast and move inland. Is this true?
Are those great shots you have just the southern part? Or are they from all over the Crimea?

and about landscape...it changes from south to north .southern part of peninsula - the Crimean Mountains,mountains begin from the Bachisaray latitude...northern Crimea is the steppe zone.it stretches from the southwest northeast, extending to the east... the coastal line of the western Crimea is similar to coastal line of Britain..just a minute..I'll show you
here is the photo taken on the west coast (to the north from Sevastopol)this is the sunrise.that's why the rocks looks red.

There needs to be added other textures as well but below you will find my load.ini till sofar. In some places the textures doesn't match very well but this is just my little experiment and needs a lot of finetuning. But I will figure that out later on when I have some more time.
Actually the only thing I did is changing and adding textures in Mount=0 till 3 and Water=2 and 3.

Zmey, thanks for the great photos. I was thinking of doing a map of the area east of the lower Don River at some point. I believe that would all be steppe zone. Is the countryside always that brown colour? I would have screwed up and made it green.
