[Request] More Gliders - XB-49 - 30.06.2009
We already have the Me-321 and G-11 (Proper cockpits for them would be nice) but IL2 is still missing several important gliders. Gliders played an important part during WW2 and should (possibly) be easier to build than 'powered' craft due to their simplicity.

It'd be nice, yes, although the Mammut looks more like a "what if" glider, rather than one that saw much service, although i might be mistaken.

Went a little bit off topic there.

Yes
My favorit it is DFS 230

Grunau Baby II!
My Grandfather flew one of thoose, I would love to have it in game!
During WW2 it was used as a trainer for the Nationalsozialistisches Fliegerkorps (NSFK) on the 1930s, when the Luftwafe was officialy formed the NSFK pilots were transfered to it. I belive Adolf Galland begun flying on the Grunau Baby, before being transfered to Italy for fighter training and later into the Luftwaffe. Its a very nice Glider and it would give IL-2 a different aspect, a more "sportive" one.
Cheers!

I really like the idea of gliders like that DFS 230 that can be carried in a Mistel/SPB style link-up

My first single seat glider too. If you looked carefully at the rudder, you could still make out the overpainted swastika.
hock:
Edit: This is NOT a real Gunau Baby II. A Grunau Baby does not have a covered skid and does not have a wheel either (I recall touchdowns being quite abrupt 8) ).
- Loht773 - 30.06.2009
Ooops!
I hadnt noticed that!
Well I imagine they must have being!
But they did had a skid, I was just looking at some pictures and it

My favourite glider is the Waco CG-4 Hadrian closely followed by the Airspeed Horsa. The Junkers 322 would make an awesome 1946 plane (stick 6 engines on it and call it the 324).

My local RAF station (RAF Shawbury) has a renovated
Airspeed Horsa Glider in one of it's hangers.
I was lucky enough to get a look at it and it is a beautiful glider...
I may learn how to 3D model just so I could do that aircraft, towed behind a couple of
DC-3s it would
make a great mission.
Otherwise the "Mammut" is an absolute beasty, did it see any action?!
- XB-49 - 23.07.2009
It was built but never used operationaly

I think gliders would give Il-2 a different look, the main problem are the air currents wich are un existing in game. But the good thing about gliders is the peace and quiet one gets from them, a good glider + a great map to fly them like Germany or the Argentinean Pampa makes one hell of a combination.
Cheers!

Peace and quiet in a glider is a mainstream media myth. It's noisy, you get banged around all the time, sheer panic is a constant factor and, no (sorry to burst you bubble), you do not have somekind of peaceful, etherical experiance - it's bloodly hard work and the environment is very rough - very, very rough when the going is good. 5 hours plus flying a glider on a task and you sleep like a log when you get home.
CFI-G (Certified Flight Instructor - Glider) myself, I do know what I'm talking about 8)
BTW - I love it

All this talk of gliders makes me desire a modern Schweitzer...

Sorry for going a little off topic, but for those who would like some decent modern glider should go check out Condor

I would love to see some more gliders in game too. The G-11 just isnt sufficient as a stand in for everything.
