Japanese radio chatter - Magua - 07.07.2009
I bought 1946 some time ago, and I'm getting quite into it now. I've started a japanese campaign, and relative to every other campaign I've played, I notice there's a distinct lack of radio chatter. Often my wingmen wont even respond to messages I give out.
Is there something I've neglected to tick when starting my IJN campaign (fighter), or is this normal?
Thanks.

Early war Japanese planes didn't have radio, maybe that's why?

I shouldn't think so, as I can hear my wingmen and ground control talking as I approach the carrier.

there is a function to switch off radio for certain planes in a mission (you can find it in FMB i think) and a lot of Japanese campaigns do it for reality since until very late in teh war, radio was only optional and alot of fighter pilots didn't like it because of the weight.
but this function does not apply (as far as I remember) to the landing, so a plane that is quiet all the time will start to chatter in landing pattern.
I am not sure if I recall that correctly ...

Cool, thanks. One last question, what's the FMB and where do I find it?

It's Full Mission Builder and you can find it from the main menu of the game. If you want to use it, you should see some tutorials first.

Given the disciplined nature of japanese aviators I doubt you'd get the same kind of chatter that you'd get from, say, the americans even if the radios were present. The japanese are a very sociable bunch but they segregate that socialising when performing their duties. These were people who had been inducted into a regime run by a military junta who poured scorn on western values and promoted 'traditional' bushido and culture. Now I would agree there would have been individuals only too happy to engage in light conversation but the 'I exist to serve' culture was accentuated in this period and such talkative behaviour would have been officially frowned upon.

Thanks for the replies. Here I was thinking that there was something wrong with my install.

There is a music file which can be played as Japanese chatter... background sound....it will loop over and over whilst you are in the air.

in FMB, open the mission in question, open the flight you want to look at as object and look at the idividual settings. it should be a setting in the overall flight menu tab, not each plane individual like the "player" checkbox.
