Messerschmitt Me 509 [RESEARCH] - Guest - 11.07.2009
This research was requested by Red Chico. I don't necesscairly agree with the choice in planes, but here's the info.
Me 509
Engine: Daimler-Benz DB 605B
Basically, the DB 605B was the same engine as the DB 605A that was used in the Bf 109 series, except it was designed for twin engined fighters.

I list this info because the Me 509 was based on the Me 309.

Might I suggest this plane as an alternative. It was a Japanese recon prototype of similar design that had overheating problems.

If I may offer a suggestion, don't make any of these. All of them were considered failures. THe R2Y suffered from engine overheating and the Me 309 suffered from nose gear problems. The Me 509 was never even built. Sorry that this isn't my best work, but you have asked for a dream plane and I don't have a ton of time this moment to chase dreams. In fact, all of the planes you asked for are dream planes. If you want a true idea of what I can do for a plane, look at the B-45 thread in the WIP section. Now, if you insist on persisting with your quest, let me know and I'll see if I can be of further assistance.

wow, good research,
but i think the 109 is much nicer. But this is only my taste.
How long did your research take?
- Guest - 11.07.2009
About 30-45 min. It only took so long because there's not a whole lot of info on the Me 509. The Me 309 and R2Y were quick and easy. Red Chico, if you really want a "what-if" plane may I suggest something that was partially built, but never finished like the Reggiane Re.2007 and not just a paper project. As you may know, the engines for the XP-55, XP-56, XP-67, and many others failed resulting in under-powered and failed fighter projects. This could very well have been the case in an alternate history for the Luftwaffe projects you requested. It would be even better if you were interested in a plane that actually made it into the war for combat, but has not made it into the game yet or has even been started, like the Re.2005. I don't mean to suggest just Italian fighters, but I have a passion for them and I know them fairly well. Besides, how awesome does this look...
She's known as Sagittario, or archer and is rated as Italy's best wartime fighter out of the Series 5 line that included the Fiat G.55 and the Macchi Mc.205.

Re.2007 never existed as far as i know. A few older books do mention it as a fact but it was proven as a post-war forgery. There are no photos of that allegedly completely finished airframe save for the engines, nor any other trace of material evidence it ever existed - only some blueprints that were drawn in 1960's...

Ah, a skeptic. Several Luft '46 planes are thought to be spoofs too. I only used that as a suggestion because I know the "history" of it. I've seen comments on both sides for and against it's existence. If you look at the models, it looks like an Re.2001.
Still, the specs look highly unlikely with the estimated top speed of over 600mph and a Jumo 004 engine. I can see it either way. Personally, I would perfer a Re.2005 anyways. Those actually made quite a bit of trouble for B-24 and Spitfire pilots.

this is the first time I see the re.2005. Beautiful plane. If someone would mod that it would be great.
- Radoye - 11.07.2009
Re.2005 was indeed an awesome machine.

It really would be nice to have...
After crashing...
Just in case you were wondering, 5 minutes flat...

Moved to correct subforum section.

Oh, wow... I didn't even know that there was a Reference Center subform. Thanks Magpie... I'll do some more digging on the Re.2005 and make a thread about it spater.
