[Request] Instrument Snap_Forward View - illegalBeagle - 13.07.2009

Many times in combat, tracking targets with my trackir4, I wish I could very quickly snap my view to the instrument panel, and back to my target. However, I find that if the trackir is set up with superfast responsiveness, the view becomes very 'jittery', and requires smoothing that takes away the responsiveness needed. I'm a widescreen user, so I lose a little of the picture at the top and bottom. My request is for a new snap view that shows the instruments as well as a view forward for orientation.

Here is the forward view from an Il-2 in widescreen 'normal' FOV. Instruments cannot be seen.

Here is the look front down view. Instruments can be seen, but no view forward (where the hell am I going?)

Here is a view that is halfway between. Instruments can be seen, as well as a view forward for orientation. I would love to be able to bind a joystick key to snap to (and back from) this view while tracking targets.

B-25H forward view. Bottom row of instruments cannot be seen.

B-25H look front down view. Notice how dark the instruments are.

A view halfway between. View of gunsight and instruments. Notice the instruments are brighter than the previous views.

What say you gods of mods? Can this be done? My request is for an additional view, not a replacement of an existing view if possible. I would think users without trackir would benefit too.

great idea, that would really help

Just use a macro that:

1. Disables the Track Ir (While the button is pressed)
2. Snaps the view to instruments.
3. Turns the Track Ir back on (When the button is released) and re-centers the Track Ir.

Very simple to do with most HOTAS setups.

Jinxx, this is exactly what I want to do, but there is no 'view to the instruments' key available. 'Look front down' view is all we get, and it's not very satisfactory for combat. A view halfway between 'forward' and 'look front down' would be much more useful.

Widening the FOV further would allow you to see the gauges - would I be mistaken to assume that somewhere, someone's made a FOV hack for Il-2? I absolutely love my new 22" 16:9 monitor, but having to physically move my view just to check my lower row of blind flying instruments in the Spit really irks me...

There is a "zoom out" view in IL-2. Works on any camera, and just might give you a better view. Its effectiveness depends on the plane, though. It might be hard to aim as well.

I am well aware that widening the view allows me to see the gauges.

Can anyone make this mod so I can achieve the 'in between' views in normal FOV (70) ?

Thanks mate, you're a legend Smile

Still yearning for this modification.

A little bump. I think this would be a worthwhile, and hopefully easy mod to do.
