Can AI gunners be wounded/killed? - TurkeyDriver - 21.07.2009
I hope this is the correct section, if not please move.
Can the AI gunners in aircraft be killed/wounded? Yesterday while flying offline against some B-24s I noticed that the tail gunner was slumped over (dead?) but his guns were tracking and firing at enemy aircraft.
If not is this something that could be modded? I have the AI mod 1.3 installed but I do not believe that this mod changed the AI gunners.
Thanks,
Turkeydriver

There is no AI mod 1.3 AFAIK; the most recent version is 0.30, and that does change the AI gunners accuracy, but I don't think it's supposed to affect whether they die or not.
I don't know whether you can kill AI gunners (with or without the AI mod) so I'll be watching this thread!

You are correct I have CERT_AIMOD_V30.exe installed not 1.3. Further testing today against B-17s shows that these gunners cannot be killed either. I assume that this probably is an across the boards thing and no ai controlled aircraft gunner can be killed.
This unfortunately increases the overall effectiveness of bomber defences.

yes you can kill the AI gunners it helps if you have the gore mod installed so you can see this.

Patton 521,
I have gore on, not sure if I have the gore mod. When hit he gunners slump over indicating that they are dead. Currently I have only checked the B-24 and B-17F, but slumped over crew continue to track and fire their guns. Slumped over pilots though do stop flying the plane, resulting in the bomber eventually crashing. It maybe different for the He-111 gunners.

The gunners can be killed in any ai controlled plane, the problem is that to kill a gunner you have to get close enough to the enemy plane to kill the gunner. I suggest trying a qmb mission with invinsiblity on, pick a B-17 or any bomber get close and fire away, but you can't wound the ai gunners their eather alive or dead. And the gore mod I'm speaking of is the mod by Wolfighter, heres the link to the post viewtopic.php?t=16292

It must be my install then (UI 1.1.1 with some exta maps, objects, and aircraft from AAA).
I downloaded and installed Wolfighter's mod. I'm not sure if gore is shown on B-17 gunners all I get is crewman slumped over and this was occuring prior to installing the mod. No matter though, B-17 gunners continue to fire away even when slumped over. I was parked on the tail of a B-17 with vulnerbility disabled and unlimited ammon on. Pumping round after round of 13mm into the gunners. The gunners kept on firing even though they were slumped over. This does not appear to be an issue with the He-111. These gunners slump over and immediately stop firing even on my install.
Thanks,

Hi...
well maybe you killed the tail gunner while he was firing at you that's why he was dead but still firing... like sometimes if you take a ME109 and start to shoot to a B24 and you get killed by gunners your plane still fly and your machines guns still shoot but you're dead...
while i fly bombers i have never seen IA gunners injured... i saw messages as they were killed or out of ammo but never seen injured...
maybe it hasn't been modelized to this game?

S!
The AI gunners can be killed, tested it many times on B24J in a QMB, but the turrets still keep tracking you for some reason. They have to be hit in the head to kill them, even a 30mm hit in the turret won't kill them unless the head is pierced with a shrapnel or similar, which is far from reality. With this bug or feature comes the other annoying AI thing, their insane 360deg view, insta reflexes and sureshot accuracy. Especially AAA gets a huge advantage of this as the heavy 85mm and 88mm arty swings around like a modern battle tank turret hitting you at any speed or angle, knowing exactly where you would be even accelerating or decelerating. Go AI
But nevertheless, back to topic..they can be killed but it is not easy. BOOM, HEADSHOT!

I don't think that it your install that is the problem, it could be but it probably isn't. As for the "zombie" 17 gunners I've never had this problem happen before. I have had many cases in which I have killed gunners on enemy A/C of various types including the B-17 and the gunners stop firing after they have been killed.

Look in the beta mods section or search for it.
