Changing Default and Static skins in game
OK Men,
I just wanted to let everyone know how to do this. So grab a chair and a soft drink....Here we go.
Always make backups of your files ..
Make sure you read the portion below and don't skip anything
1st Grab this mod from here.....it's not needed but could save you some time making folders and shows correct folder structure......
http://www.filefront.com/vp+skinmod+v1+3zip/;13390566;/fileinfo.html
2nd Make sure your config. file is set like this: Make sure you set cache to "0" then save and exit.
[game]
Arcade=0
HighGore=1
mapPadX=0.6692857
mapPadY=-0.046666667
viewSet=55
Intro=0
NoSubTitles=0
NoChatter=0
NoHudLog=0
NoLensFlare=0
iconTypes=1
eventlog=eventlog.lst
eventlogkeep=0
3dgunners=1
ClearCache=0
3rd Make a set of folders like the example above(starting with the name of mod):
Examples of correct folder structure:
MODS\"name of mod"\3do\plane\"name of plane like paintschemes folder"\desert or summer folder = if your not using UP2.0
MODS\files\"name of mod"\3do\plane\"name of plane like paintschemes folder"\desert or summer folder= If you are using UP2.0
From the picture you can see that I have quite a few already...
NOW HOW TO GET THE NEW SKIN FILES:
* load desired skin in QMB, make sure it is a blank skin... Go fly ....quit game or go to main screen.... now go to paintschemes\cache in main game folder....
Find the newly created plane folder and drag that folder to your desktop. **NOTE** That new plane folder is the correct name for the plane.
Now go to the next step
4th Place the new default skin files in the summer or desert folder
skin1o.tga
skin1o.tgb
skin1p.tga
skin1q.tga
5th Make sure the map load.ini file your using has the word "desert" or "summer" and that your skin folder matches it.
Example:
[WORLDPOS]
CAMOUFLAGE = Desert or Summer (planes skin folder must match map for it to show up in game)
Once you are done and ready to see the new skins just place them in the correct Mods folder. IF using UP 2.0 then make sure file names are correctly setup and then add to your jsgmemods folder and use JGSME mod enabler to activate.
you should now have default and static planes set to same skin....
!!!! Be aware that IL2 uses desert name for pacific theater maps, so you'll get desert default skins
on those maps too, just change plane's skin folder back to default. "summer"
Salute,
Badger
PS you can make this a sticky if you want...
What a .Tgb File??? - GhostRider - 22.07.2009
Hi Badger!
I am very interested in the possibility of changing the default skin, I use photoshop to make my skins and I have no problem with the skin1o.tga, skin1p.tga and skin1q.tga.
The problem is the file. tgb, I do not know what type of file, what program is used to make on this file.
Thank you in advance for your help and your explanation.

Thanks for the info with two questions to clairify......
1. Can you only have one skin per aircraft type (I assume yes in that we're making a new default)
2. Can other players see it if hosting (I assume no in that we're changing a client side function)
Thanks,
K2

OK Boys,
1st Ghostrider
Don't worry about the tgb extension, The game will make that automatically. Once you have entered the game in QMB and selected your skin. Just fly it for a second or two then go to the "Cache" folder in your skins folder and find the named airplane folder, then you'll see the 4 files......Just take that airplane folder out and place it in your new skinmod folder making sure you transfer the 4 files into a folder named summer or desert and wha la! you have a new default skin for flying online and static airplanes...
So the folder structure should look like this
C:\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946_FS
\MODS\SKINMOD\3do\plane\bf-109E-7\Desert
This is what mine looks like...just place the four files in the last folder, it can be desert or summer....Just depends on the map your playing...Good luck

1. Yes only 1 skin per aircraft. It must be a blank skin, unless you have special markings you want all of the planes to have then you just need to put that on the skin.....
2. Other players should see your skins only if they have the same skinmod folder installed on their end..This way everyone is playing with the same skins and file structures....

Isn't this the same skinmod that was originally posted here till VP & AAA management had some sort of disagreement? The procedure is the same.. I have had this mod since day one.
- Guest - 23.07.2009
Yep, its the same mod, BC.
I guess its a good idea to have this post, as there are still new posts from people asking about htis, almost daily. Hopefully this will go some way to minimising that.... :wink:

In fact, tgb files are just tga files with alpha channel (for damage models - holes :wink: ).
If you want to look at them just rename them xxxx.tgb to xxxx.tgb.tga and you can open them in your paint program.
NOTE: in the game, some tgb files are sometimes encrypted and need a conversion utility to look at them... I don't know the reason of this because the game doesn't seem to need it :roll: ?

OK, the only other thing I can think of then is where have you got the game installed, if it is C:\Program Files\...... etc then I'd advise to move it out of there to say C:\Games\....etc, Vista does some wierd shit with permissions etc in the Program Files folder.
Cheers
Quelty
PS check your conf.ini again to make sure your changes did "take".
Ok mate - ={TTU}=Zumbach - 23.07.2009

Hi Badger!
Thank you for your reply.
Still some question;
First, some files are named as follows: Ex p-51b (usa) and G4M1-11 (ja), how it is that with this type of case that does not work, I try anything.
second, is it possible to eliminate the mark of nationality by default.
- 4./JG53_Badger - 23.07.2009
Guys you must use blank skins. This way the game will use the skin you select as default. If you don't want markings then make sure skins are blank. You can change the markings to none in the arming screen. Example Squadron "None". That should get rid of the markings....
I posted this for everyone because Big Boss is right, There have been alot of posts asking about it.....
*Bearcat this is same mod and I posted the link that I found by doing a search in Yahoo. Open to the Public. This was done purely for everyone's enjoyment...AAA is not hosting any files.
*Quelty I use Windows XP and not vista, only thing I can think of is make sure that you have "Show hidden files and folders applied." To do this, click on my computer, go to tools, folder options, view. Then select show all hidden and folders button. then apply....
