Is SoW a spiritual successor to IL2??? - Dynamo11 - 23.07.2009

Well as the title says, I just want to know if SoW is basically IL2, just BoB based
and with a nice new engine to account for all those nice high poly objects I've seen.

I am well aware that IL2: Birds of Prey is a true successor despite it going across to consoles.

Sorry if it has been mentioned before...

SoW is made by Oleg Maddox, it is the first in a new series of "perfected" flight-simulators.
Il2:BoP is made by another team with some help from Oleg, it is meant for consoles but will be quite different from Il-2.

SOW...Whats that? Never heard of it.
I remember Oleg was going to maka a BOB sim, but that was way back.Years and years, and years ago.

In my opinion, neither are the successors of IL-2 Sturmovik so far, because they first need to englobe most of WWII's fronts to be considered BY ME the successor of IL-2 Sturmovik.

But who knows? IL-2 started with just a few aircraft for example, and each patch, each expansion pack gave it more maps, airplanes, and other general additions. The thing is, with the economic crisis, you can quickly realize that all the gaming companies are getting greedy, they've been doing absurd things like RoF team, they released a game with only 2 flyable planes, and you have to buy each additional planes separately, and they are NOT cheap.

We have yet another recent example: Valve released Left4Dead and promised inumerous free updates with new weapons, characters and campaigns, so far they added ONE level which is not even a campaign level, and then announced Left4Dead2, which is gonna have the same engine, all the same content, and will only add some characters, weapons and campaigns, FOR FULL PRICE.

I've been having too many disappointments with the gaming industry lately, and I hope (although I know he will), Oleg doesn't jump on the same boat the others are jumping onto.

Specht.

Spiritual yes. In as much as it is ethereal and wholly without form. SoW is all smoke and mirrors, wih no confirmed sightings.

Well said, Bee!

Yes well said. Tis a shame though, by the time it's released people will have forgotten what the Battle of Britain was or by that time PC's will be a thing of the past Wink

Yep, when IL-2 was first released it only covered the Ost Front, Eastern Front and the Great Patriotic War.

That is a polite way of calling it what it seems to be; vaporware.

- Craterman2 - 10.10.2009

Oleg keeps saying he will show in game vids and screens but continues not to. It must not be to his favor. SoW IMO is somewhere between vaporware and disappointing. Of course, I am left only to speculate.

We shall see a new spirit in SoWBoB... - Fireskull - 10.10.2009

Oleg is still alive and well-so is 1C: Maddox Games. The IL-2 modding community has created demand-and simultaneously-opportunity for Maddox to know his game, so to speak. The new, different, and better 3D engine platform will be a new spirit of combat flight simulation.

In summary, 1C: Maddox Games has invested huge amounts of time and money in this. The lessens of the integration of the modding community with 1C has caused delays in favor of the modding community. The modding community is a gigantic base for SoWBoB launch. The coming of age of the offspring (us) will serve to excelerate synergy with Maddy Daddy. The larger and better the base, the longer it takes to complete the edifice.

Be patient-it will come, and BIG.

It will be the literal successor to IL2. The next generation up from IL2.

All you naysayers will be looking quite silly when SoW comes out.

- stansdds - 24.10.2009

New screen shots have been posted and evidently SoW is moving forward. I must say that the shots of the aircraft are stunning.

Exactly! - Fireskull - 24.10.2009

I want to be around to read the posts in the IL-2 communities and hear the talk on TeamSpeak when it is released. LOL

I agree with your point of view.
Its very sad indeed that we are coming to this. Everyone is getting greeedy these days.
I have a bad hunch that Oleg will follow in the same footsteps as the rest Sad
