Vista and Config.ini - Boyfryslan - 01.08.2009
I have a problem with the graphics..
Landscape detail won't go at Perfect, only at excellent, i have all things very high in the config ini., but it changes everything back, when i want to play it. the water is just a plate, instead of waves..
This is my OpenGl Section of the Config.ini

Boyfrystan you've got to experiment with different video card drivers. The latest should be the best but it doesnt always work that way. You must have an ATI card.

I have Vista Ultimate (32-bit) and I found that the only way that I could get Il-2/1946 to run was as teh "administrator" - are you doing that?
- chas1963 - 01.08.2009
I had the same problem when I went over to the "Vista64"...
1) Do you have the game in a folder like: C: / Games / IL2 1946? Do not place it in the Programs folder.
2) Make sure that you have all security permissions set to "Full Control". Right click the executable and go to the security page, set full control for yourself and administration, ect....
I was dealing with this issue awhile ago and I may have forgot some of the stuff I did...let me know how it goes after you try these things. IMO this IS NOT a driver issue...its probably a "security" setting. For some reason my "config" file kept re-setting to default after I made changes.
I made some posted about this issue in the past...you could do a search.
[EDIT] I'm not sure it really makes a difference but I also run the game in "XP compatibility" mode...

I believe the rest of the guys have it all wrong.
- Run the game offline
- Go into hardware setup
- click on video modes
- make sure that Attempt Stencil Buffer in checked and lighted up.
Now go back to video options and change the landscape to perfect and you should be set.
I'm pretty sure this is your issue. Crossing my fingers and toes for ya
Good Luck!

Did you try setting the security? It worked for me... open the security panel and set "full control" to "ALL" every where that you can. Then try re-setting you config's. Also you could try "un-checking" read only in the "config" text file.
THE reason it may work is that the security settings are NOT allowing you to make changes to your files...files like the config.
p.s. I'm assuming that you know enough about running "IL2 1946" that you have your config set right...and your GPU settings....

Hmmmm maybe your card isn't good enough to set to perfect? Don't know sry m8.

It really sounds like the problem I had when I switched to Vista64... The Vista security system wouldn't let me make changes to the config settings because "permissions" where not set to allow for "full control" of the programs. Every time I would set my config settings for "perfect" mode Vista would just change them back to default after I would start the game. I read about someone who fixed the problem by starting the "hidden" administrator mode...but I found that I could get the game to work by just setting the "full control" to every group (SYSTEM, Me \ Me, Me \ Administrator, ect...).

hey guys so on my security properties Full control, modify, read and execute, read, and write are all allowed, the only one not checked special permissions, and i cant find out how to be allowed to check it.

If the "Open GL" section that you have posted is a direct copy from your "conf.ini" file there are some double and triple entries in it. Check the bottom three sections. The best thing you can do is get that right to start with then copy and paste the corrected complete il2 folder into somewhere else on "C", for e.g. C\My Games\ where "My Games" is a "new" folder. the location should then read: - C\Mygames\Il2 Sturmovik 1946\. You should then be able to alter your "conf.ini" file without it changing back. If you need a copy of my "conf.ini" I will post that for you. This is how my "Open GL" reads. You must also select "Apply stencil buffer" in your game "Hardware setup\video mode" sections
to be able to get "Perfect".
