Some dearly wanted mods. - Eagle1_Division - 04.08.2009
Recently I got back to IL-2 (my post count dropped to 0!) and I've started working on an alternative history campaign. The main objective is to remain as realistic as possible; and the single difference is that the Japanese stike on Pearl Harbor is cancelled, and the U.S. doesn't enter the war, until, after much fighting and assistance in the Pacific from the Japanese, GB is defeated (May I note they put up a heckava fight, but two enemies at two fronts with no allies is simply too much).
I desperitely need some planes and ships for the mod, but I also think many people will agree that these will provide for some excellent mission possibilities as well as some nice planes to fly.
The Easiest, dearly missed, and you'd be crazy if you don't want to torpedo it...
#1: IJN Yamato class Battleship

Some planes that everyone would definately enjoy and be a large benefit to the community...
#2: B-36 Peacemaker
Preatty good summary of the aircraft...
Quote:The genesis of the B-36 can be traced to early 1941, prior to the entry of the U.S. into World War II. At that time it appeared that there was a very real chance that Britain could fall, making a strategic bombing effort by the U.S. against Germany impossible
Essentially the plane would be able to fly from the Continental U.S, accross the Atlantic, and bomb Germany. It's first flight was August 8th, 1946. It was mass produced, though not on quiet on the scale of most aircraft, only being 384, had Britian actually fell, there would be no doubt it would be produced in large numbers like other heavy bombers.

#3: Ju-390
Similar to the B-36 in mission, only two were ever produced, in 1944. Though no reason is given for it's cancellation, it appears to be because Germany had greater need to produce Jet and traditional fighters to protect itself. Had Britian failed, Nazi Germany could occupy the oil fields of the middle-east, the natural rescource and revenue from it probably means a lot of experimental projects Germany had wouldn't have been cancelled. Also, the demand for a trans-atlantic bomber would have become an absolute necessity.
There is also a report that the plane flew to just off the coast of New York successfully, Japan also showed interest in the aircraft during 1945, and obtained a production license, but it ended before they were produced in Japan.

You can find schematics for the aircraft and Yamato with a simple google search. I can see a lot of really neat scenarios and missions, multiplayer and single player, coming from this. Many, many thanks to anyone who decides to pick one of these up, especially the aircraft.

with the B-36 you could not make the late versions since IL-2 alows no more than 8 engines
- Boosher - 04.08.2009
It may be possible to model the dual jets on each wing as one engine giving double the power.... just a thought.

i was thinking the same thing some one said it was not possable but nothing is imposable
- Eagle1_Division - 04.08.2009
My thoughts exactly... The engines are basically tied together, so whatever happens to one will probably effect the other one anyways. But since I'm aiming at an alternative history instead of Korea, then I'd like to ask whoever takes it up to please disclude the jet engines, and possible include them on another variant...
Once again, many thanks to anyone who picks it up, the Ju390 should be fairly easy to franken-model, IDK about the B-36, though, I might be able to make a base model if it's absolutely necessary. I'd provide any help I can to whoever picks any of the planes up. The Yamato shouldn't be too difficult, relatively.

i can make the model but thats it some one else has to make the FM DM and every thing else

The models are certainly doable..but the scope of the IL2 maps is woefully small for the strategic bombers youare proposing.

#1, From what I understand there seems to be no real limit on map sizes,
#2, The aircraft would be part of scenario missions, simply disapearing over the edge of the map after a few hours, like making a BoB Scenario map on maps that don't have a landmass to the south (forgot it's name, it's the map just east of crimea), or like making a B29 bombing mission on the South Japan map. Also, I'm primarily planning on them being intercepted on the map they take off from.
#3, The airplanes don't have a minimum range  .
I can provide blueprints if anyone wants them, FM and WM should be available on the wikipedia pages, and DM would be something along the lines of a slightly toughened FW200 for the Ju390, as for the B-36, it might recquire some research, but I think the B-29 would be a good base.

in theory ... yes. As far as what home computers can handle while playing the game ... not so much. The game becomes almost unrunable with very large maps or very dense maps.
Not everyone has a super computer that can run that much of a load.

Eagle1_Division ,yes I agree with you we should have the IJN YAMATO in the game , and I would like to help you but I'm not a 3d specialist, what I could do is using a default HMS Prince Of Wales ship slot and retexture it with the apearence of the IJN Yamato.including the Japanese flag.[ I know its not the same ] .but you could finish your campaign , and as soon someone makes a new and real 3d IJN Yamato model you can switch models.

That is already in game right now. It is the default generic IJN BB. Same for US ... already in game

It's ok, but maybe some renders?
And, if you want, i'll make template for F1M. All what i need for this is complete 3d model, imported to il-2 engine (maybe as one mesh), and drawings - as detalized as possible.
What you mean about this?
And i'm sorry, engrish is not my native language, excuse me if you find some mistakes in text.
