Tracers...? - goeypoey2 - 04.08.2009

hey, i couldn't find this in the mod section... is there any mod out there that changes the tracers colours to the colour they were in real life? (burning yellowish) i've already found the one that makes the tracers thinner (thank god) but i still need help on changing the tracer colour... after all, i don't like my friends thinking im playing a WW2 version of star wars =/

They DID use colored tracers in WWII. The colors you're seeing are correct in most cases. They even used colored flak many times, so different ships and gun batteries could track their shots by the color of smoke puffs. You think Oleg went through all the trouble of making this sim only to just "toss in" some rainbow tracers that had no basis in fact? Big Grin

actually, yes i did xD

but i'd still like to change their colours to the ones you see in movies/games/guncams =)

Here's the thing though:

Movies - Unreliable source
Games - Unreliable source
Guncam - 99% Black and White

Big Grin That's why most people don't know.

But yes, you CAN mod the tracers. Get that tracer mod, and make a backup of it. Then find the orange/yellow/red tracer you want, and copy it into the folder of ALL of the other colored tracers, and overwrite it (give it the same name so it overwrites the colored ones). Then ALL of your tracers will be the same color (whatever you like).

why would you want that? Its not what the pilots in real life back then would have seen either.

Not sure about what the germans used, but americans used Red and the russians used green (perhaps they still do.)

Go on vpmedias site. He has a tracer mod that changes the tracer colour to yellow. Also, do a forum search. There's another mod on here which adds the smoke contrails to the tracer. A nice mod it is too Wink
