Download Caucasus Start up map C Texan/Community - farang65 - 11.08.2009

Hi all,

Once again I have been working on another start up request map mainly for C.Texan and the IL_2 Community.

This map is of some of the Caucasus Mountains and The Black Sea.

This map was a new experience as I was testing uncharted waters mainly turning a static sea in to a fully workable sea.

There was a lot of mucking around and paying attention to detail in all maps Mymap_c, map_h and map_T.

These maps had to be worked over a number of times before I got The Black Sea workable.

Definitely a challenge doing this region.

Here are some screens of the in game map.

The map is 100 pixals scale.

1) You can not save missions as yet on this map. You have to follow Kevin P's tutorial from 'Upon successful loading in the game'. Then move on to his Textures Tutorial.

2) Once you start working on this map and save some changes in your IL-2>MAPS>Caucasus folder then copy and paste the changes to Mapmods>Maps>Caucasus.

3) You have to use the Polish Corridor textures for a successful loading.

4) Rar Pack for this map uploaded this morning. Let me know if there are any problems with the download. Rar Pack Polish Corridor Textures later today.

5) Perfect Settings

AWESOME FARANG! That area looks just like the dimensions I asked for. From what you've told me about all the work you did on this... You really outdid yourself this time. This is a great achievement. Well done! THANK YOU!

I recently watched a Caucasus documentary on Animal Planet. Seeing the area up close like that with all its detail in landscape and animals makes you really appreciate the beauty there.

Now I need to gather information about airfields (German and Russian).
If anyone has this information please share it.

Are you going to do a winter map as well?

I've been waiting for a winter map Kuban.

The battles in the Kuban during 1942-1943 through the Winter.

It was a very tough time, and the Russians did a great job of fighting off superior german forces during the winter.

Your map looks very good, not like the rolling hills of the Kuban we have now. LOL

- CzechTexan - 11.08.2009

I first plan on doing a summer map. Soviet defensive battles were during summer and fall. The Germans were stopped just before winter and then the tide turned and Soviet offensives were during winter.
Would be good to have both summer and winter.
Will probably use the Compans textures used in the modified Kuban map for summer.

Screenshots in game Enjoy - farang65 - 11.08.2009

Hi C.Texan and Community,

Here are some screenshots of this new map for people to get a feel for this map.

I am testing the new Black Sea over this day or so.

I'll post some screenshots of that test moving ships on a workable new sea.

A Download link should be provided around Friday night. Smile

Great start Big Grin
This will be great map to play on!
bay the way will you add coastal cities?

- CzechTexan - 12.08.2009

Starter map files done by this weekend is good timing. That's when I usually download the big files.

Yes, coastal cities will be added. The Russians transported materiel from these ports to Tuapse and Novorossysk. You could have missions depicting Luftwaffe raids on the ships or ports. The main action was in the mountain passes though and that will be an interesting place to fight over.

The map is not too big and there are not any really big cities so it will be fairly easy to populate. Will still take much time for sure.

I sure don't want to rain on the parade... but your most recent pictures look like green carpeted mountains.

From the first pictures it looked like you actually had mountains with rocks and rough terrain.

- canonuk - 13.08.2009

Nearmiss - those are obviously just temporary textures. They won't be left all-green.

Thanks Cannon Uk - farang65 - 13.08.2009

Yes,
The start up maps or request start up maps that I make mainly have one texture for the land which is rgb7 and naturally if any ocean or a new large sea is on a map as in this map rgb 31 for water.

With this map I have used the recent Polish Corridor load.ini request map. which is just a temporary load.ini.

I'm sure that C. Texan and others interested in the community will do a fine job with this map.

I'll post the new black sea test pictures tonight. I am very happy that the sea test was successful.

Definitely a download link for Friday night.

Cheers Kirby

Black Sea Water Testa big relief - farang65 - 13.08.2009

Great to see the Russian destroyer moving on a new water area.
That water area took a lot of work to figure out how to get it truely workable.

I thought it would not be interesting enough if it was just a static see.

Download link re edited in the first post FRIDAY NIGHT.

Cheers

Kirby

Great work,
just one suggestion could you please put all the files in a zip or rar this would save a lot of downloading time.
thanks

Will try a new rar file Saturday - farang65 - 14.08.2009

I have not done rar files for a very long time that is compressing them.
Opening them is not a problem.
Had to quickly relearn the process again tonight. I practically rarred everything!!
Will change current map file to a rar file download on Saturday.
The textures may be on Sunday.

Cheers Kirby

hey Kirby,
I was not expecting you to have it uploaded so quickly. I was able to download all the files and I'll have a look at the map later. Thank you again!

Is anyone else going to be working on this map to get it finished?
