edited the title of the thread: try not to post titles in full caps, they'll be changed. I changed the title to make it more obvious as to what the thread was about.

Oh aaaand: please only post in the skins / textures download section if you want to peddle your wares -- otherwise, chuck the thread in the discussion area. Cheers!

therefore: Moved to correct section.

Almost any software made for drawing is good, I personally like GIMP best, you can get it for free off their website and its legal. Big Grin
Pretty much like photoshop.

Then you need to find any tutorials or anything on the internet, let me give you some tips:
1. Before you start change the picture (usually Void.bmp) mode or what ever it is to RGB, so it can handle transparency.
2. Set the first layers (the one with panel lines) white color transparent.
3. Make new layers under the first one with panel lines and draw on them so that you don't go over the panel lines.
4. When you're done editing, marge all the layers into one, remove the alpha channel (transperency) and change the mode back to Index.
5. You can change the mode back In the program you used to draw it or go to Mission4Today and find a program called Bright, that thing changes the mode without almost any loss of detail. (You will see that the program can't make it as nice when you change the mode to Index)
6. Then just save the picture as a .bmp (If you're making noseart make sure there are no spaces in the name, I think it won't show the picture in game if there are spaces)

Thats about it, now you just need to experiment a little in the program you use.
You can get GIMP here or here.

Hope this helps.

P.S.
You can get Bright and a tutorial for it here.

I prefer GIMP any day for making skins for Il-2 Over Photoshop. I find it quicker that was aswell. Only time I use Photoshop for textures is in GTR: Evolution for making car livery. Also What I do is, I use Templates, then you can adjust layers to fit. And continue from there. Simmers Paintshop has many awesome tutorials so it will be worth visiting there.
