IL-2 Keyboard Binds - royalfuzz - 18.08.2009

Hey all, not sure if there is a topic on this but I couldn't find one. I'm pretty new to the CSM's but I decided to buy IL-2 cause I remember really enjoying flight sims when i was younger. Well needless to say that I'm having a ball but I need some help with a good keyboard set up. I've never been good at this type of thing and hoped a couple of you might have some suggestions. I'm Currently flying with a Extreme3D pro but a full fledged HOTAS and trackIr are being worked into the budget lol. Thanks in advance.

There is no perfect key mapping. Through time of playing you slowly add keys to what you want need depending on what you mostly fly, there are way too much controlls to put one on each key. Confusedhock:

Yes, the key mapping takes time. It's like:

You think: "Hmm... I need flaps."
then go to controls and assign a button.
Game says: "flaps:combat flaps:takeoff flaps:landing"
You think: "Hmm... This is an unhandy place for the button."
Go to controls again and assign a new button.
You say: "Woohoo! This is Da place for the flaps down!"

I always try to use Letters relating to that action, like I for ignition, G for landing gear, and F fire extinguisher.
Then as you start to run out of free letters, make combinations: like CH for chocks, this is also good for multiple engines, i use E1, E2, E3, E4, for four engines or less all the way up to E6 actually for the giant ME 323.
And like the others said you will make them up you self as needs must.

And for a little extra i painted the keys red, green and blue; so i dont accidentally press something i shouldnt in mid flight and stuff i should press. and blue is stuff like time and the speed indicator thingy int he bottom left corner.

hope this helps

I use combos for all actions that's names have two words in them.
