QUESTION: Aircraft Identification Numbering System - Venatore - 24.08.2009

QUESTION: Aircraft identification numbering system

Hello,

I fly the Bf110 C/CB/G2/G4 variants, when selecting a unit to fly, the numbering on the side of the aircraft changes (we all know that), however; I want a particular number on my Bf110 and I'm asking the community if you know where the file structure pathway is to in put your own numbering?

I know that is you go to Ubisoft/IL-2 Sturmovik 1946/Users/0/settings, there you can in put your number, however; what I'm asking is to creating your own lettering/number identification.

For example if I fly a bf110 flying under the Stab_KG30 unit/squadron 1, I'll get the number 4D SV inputting the tactical number of 19...it's the SV part that changes not the 4D.

I want my number to be 5D SV, but; there is no way to get the 5D SV to come together in any unit.

Is there a way to force in put to make the desired personnel number for your aircraft?

Kind Regards

Venatore

Greetings Venatore,

First, I don't have a solution to your dilemma, but I am very interested in it, as it reflects one of my own, which is :
"How does one manipulate the generation of aircraft ID?"
I suspect the earlier versions of IL2 MAt (the precursor to MAt Manager) would allow you to apply specific ID to your aircraft, though I do not know this for sure.
My suspicion is that IL2 Mat was simply a way to apply aircraft ID on a plane by plane basis ( anyone out there correct me if I am wrong please) and that the MAt MAnager part of the application is the random number application element for the artwork.
I would love to be able to :
1) Apply specific ID (by historical squadron/geschwader/wing/FG etc) to the appropriate groups.
2) Add to the historical squadron/regiment/wing etc etc list included in the IL2 game to represent more squadrons - after all this would simply be a data base, really, for artwork that is already done by artists superior to me.
3) Be able to have a consistent number of correctly id'ed planes in a given campaign, which would carry forth throughout that campaign., and at the best case, carry forth wear and tear of that campaign reflected in the aircraft's appearance AND performance to reflect historical abilities for various nations to affect field maintenance at various points and theatres in the war.
4) My own specific interest as a Canadian, is to add the Canadain WWII active squadron Id letters to the Commonwealth Numbering Set - I have all the correct lettering researched, and as all the numbers and letters exist it should simply be a matter of a few lines in a couple of files (?) to direct the prgram to add them. Canadian Squadrons were numbered 400-443 in World War II, and only a few are represented in IL2. Shame shame Oleg.

I am aware of the additional nations mod, but I want the Canadian Squadrons to have RAF codes, as they did throughout WWI - the maple leaf within the rondel occured after the war.

I hope someone reading this thread has some insight as to how to tackle our issues, as I believe they are interrelated, and the solution to one will lead to the solution of the other.

Sincerely,

Kopfdorfer

Are you asking how to create a new squadron, or how to edit the existing ones?

Creating a new squad with custom markings is easy for online use, but I'm not certain about editing existing ones.

I've PM'd Muas on something similar. My squadron, =XIII= want to display numbers on RAF markings rather than the letter (I am aware of the ubisoft file, not what I need though). Perhaps some bright spark is able to create a mod which allows insertion of squadrons and lettering??? Obviously it is important that all squads online see it though.

I'm asking for: when scrolling through the squadrons looking for a suitable one to fly with (emblems) the numbering on the side of your aircraft changes. Im trying to find the entries (numbering system) for these units. I want to dictate the number myself and not the game.

Is there a file somewhere within this game (accessible) that has all these numbers?

Kind regards
