B-17 Turboprop testbed - FlyingBoxHead - 29.08.2009
I was looking at pictures of some B-17s and I found a few that stood out among others.
It is a B-17 turboprop testbed. The engine on the nose is an experimental Allison turboprop engine
I was wondering if somebody could make a mod for this strange aircraft. thx

A nice idea. But it wouldn't be very useful for much.

Well but the Storch did see action. That B-17 just has an engine sticking out of it's nose. It's alright by me if someone wants to build it.

the B-17 in the second image can now be found flying the airshow circuit. It's the Liberty Belle

The engine is a P&W XT-34 turboprop - which would eventually power the C-133 Cargomaster - under testing.
As you can see from the feathered engines, it was about x5 more powerful than a Cyclone engine.
