List of Allied planes - oposing A6M3 in late 1942. - Pigeon - 31.08.2009

Intend to make new missions for Zero A6M3 - second half of 1942.

Could somebody help with list of allied planes (US+RAAF) - that where present at Pacific late 1942.

Every suggestion is appreciated... (both fighters and bombers, air force and navy...)

Many Thanks

Thanks Saburo!

I thought they could have contact with Spitfires of RAAF ?

- Tooslow - 31.08.2009

In a book I have on the P-38 Lightning it states that they arrived at Henderson field on Guadalcanal between November 14-22, 1942. So combat with them was possible before the end of 1942.

Thanks Tooslow...

I also found documents on web... on arial war between SpifireVb and A6M3.

For the purpose of clarification, the B-17 that saw combat in the Pacific in late 1942 would have been the B-17E. Some B-17F's were deployed to the Pacific in early 1943, shortly before the B-17 was withdrawn from the Pacific theater.

The P-38 models were G and H, F being only deployed in ETO & MTO.
You may ad also the B-25C/D models which operated over New Guinea as were the Tainan and 4th Kokutai equiped with Mod22 and 32 Zero (A6M3).

On December 27th, 1942 Richard Bong shot down his first Zero and an Oscar in action over Buna, New Guinea. He flew a P38J. Two scores on his first combat mission.

You can fly this mission in my America's Ace of Aces Campaign along with all of Bong's successfull combat missions.

A perfected version should be available for download next week. It is being beta tested now.

Hi Hairhog,

I doubt that by 1942 Bong flew a P-38J, but most certainly a P-38G or H.
This affair happened over Buna recently captured area and Dobodura airfield (in construction).
The P-38 pilots weren't yet integrated in the 9th FS of the 49ers' (Fighter Group) but members of the 39th FS.
The pilots were :
Capt Tom Lynch,
Wingman Dick Bong
Leader Ken Spraks
Wingman John Magnus.
They defend the airfield attacked by Vals escorted by Zeros and Oscars.
Bong's aircraft was #15 "Thumper".
Lynch get a Hamp (A6M3 Zero) and Bong a "Hamp" that was running for Lynch Lighting and then a Val after a long dive to escape the rest of the japanese escort. He then flew back to Port Moresby.

From "Protect and Avenge, the 49th FG in WW2"

P-26? Really? As a trainer?

- UF_Shoki - 21.01.2010

P-26 was used by the Philippines Air Force in January 1942 against japanese attacks on Manilla and suburb.
It was far obsolete but it was the only game in town for the small army as even USAAF was outnumbered.

Oops, you're correct it was a P-38F and it was indeed Thumper. I forgot which P38s are in the stock game. I'm working on a new campaign using some mods for Bong.
