[DIY MOD] Reduced Wingman Chatter - Checkyersix - 09.09.2009

I don't know about everyone else, but the AI in single player tends to be an immersion killer for me. Their radio discipline is both too perfect to be believed and sounds unnatural in the heat of combat ("This is sixteen...I'm going down in flames AAAAAARGHHH!")

Luckily it's easy to fix this problem. Just go into your "Samples" directory (should be in main game folder) and into the country whose speech you want to change. Then delete the superfluous .wav files from the relevant Actor's folder (back them up first, of course). Remember that there are several versions of some files in the different Actors folders, so be thorough.

I find it useful to remove all the "This_is_#.wav" files, as well as "Damn_i_m_hit.wav" and "Going_around.wav".

This way the AI will say things like "Attacking with rockets!" instead of "This is four...Attacking with Rockets!". I got rid of "Damn I'm hit!" because the AI tends to say it AFTER they've crashed, and "Going around" because I hate the endless cycle of "#, Abort, Abort!" followed by "This is #, going around..."

You can also cut out all the "first.wav", "second.wav" etc if you want the AI to refrain from identifying each other. If there's one slot you always fly (like lead), you can leave the .wav so that you'll know when the AI is talking to you.

I've found that by cutting down on the unnecessary chatter the airwaves feel less cluttered and more exciting, like real people under stress shouting clipped calls rather than formal messages.

Anways, give it a try and see what you think. I've only worked with it for a few days, so tell me if anyone has problems.

You could just put a check in "Radio Silence" on the missions in FMB.

Checkyersix

Why don't you upload your speech packs to us, and make it simple? Tongue

Only for those of us that doesn't have time...

I will apreciate it a lot

will this work the same for the tailgunners in certain aircraft such as the IL-2 ? I am really sick of hearing him complain any time I pull a negative G. Pretty Annoying

Thanks

Yes, I know Smile

This is for when you want to hear them talk, but not chatter their heads off.

I would have the anti-gunner-cry mod. Or even better, mod that makes the gunner say: Sir, I would love to see you flying straight instead of these negative GConfused.

I remember a campaign, by Compans i think, where he replaced a lot of the repititive voices with RAF chatter, which gave a much better immersion effect than the default. It would be really good if this could be done for all nations, just general talk, or morse code etc

I believe that could be done as an in-flight music track, but it would have to be switched out for different nations.

yes i have some of these installed as well which also add to the immersion, what Compans had in his campaign though was a lot of the inflight messages replaced by other messages so that there was not so much repitition.

The sound in IL2 is one of the biggest letdowns for me, it would be great to have a revamp and/or new voices and messages added.
