Opinions on a night bombing Campaign? - F4U-1_Corsair - 16.09.2009
I have been starting a Night bombing campaign in the newly released Halifax, with all the latest knick knacks, and I can honestly say, The first few missions are very good, and are problem free, (I wish I had my screenshots to post, but alas, I don't) however, I was wondering what people's opinions are on a campaign that, to be entirely honest, is rather repetitive? And second, how long should the missions be? All opinions and questions are welcom, as I'm trying to make this campaign be best suited to the people who will play it.

Great for avoiding repetitive missions. Some tricks can be used for bomber or fighter campaigns

Hurrah! Very exciting news indeed, I'm so glad someone's taken this up. Unfortunately repetitive is the nature of the beast, and I'm sure it wouldn't dissuade people from playing your campaign (about which more details would be lovely!) nor would they hold it against you as the author.
However, there are still quite a few options: interspersing the combat missions with things like training flights/squadron moves; transport/frieght trips; some story-driven flights, like buzzing a nearby (maybe USAAF) airfield or something; perhaps a delivery to a Coastal Command airfield, if not some CC missions (new skin!); troop transport...it'd be nice if we could use the Halifax with paratroopers/as a glider tug too although that would take extra mod work. Perhaps even a move to/from flying the Mosquito mk B XVI as a pathfinder?
Added to which, bombers being rather good platforms for looking at the world around, you've a lot of scope for making the interest and variety by exploiting the potentially beautiful dawn/dusk effects, CanonUK's wonderful Channel map (which I presume you'll be usuing?); interesting and individual targets (easier with the pre-D-Day shift to tactical 'precision' targets); comradeship (perhaps an unexpected pair of Spits formating on you/providing a close escort as you cross the channel after a particularly tough mission or something) etc etc to make individual missions stand out. Also have you thought about recording a new set of RAF radio chatter suitable for bomber missions? It added immensely to the variety and novelty of Compan's excellent fighter campaigns. Apologies for suggesting quite so much work, the cheesey and obvious bits and so on but hey ho, IL2's first RAF night-bomber campaign should be something special! Anything I can do to help, do say/PM. Mission length on Cannon's map I guess would be around 2-2 1/2hrs max? I'd have thought that was a reasonable upper limit for most bomber fans.
All the best with this, can't wait to hear and see more about it!
Screwy

If they would hurry up and release 4.09 and the additional new 'Triggers' for the FMB it should make life a lot more interesting.

wow... ok, great! I was afraid that if I had realistic flight times, people wouldn't play it. and also, seeing as I'm now on my computor with my screens on it:
on course prior to the turn in to the bomb run:
on target
Nightfighters!
Under attack, entering a corkscrew
The unfortunate thing about alternate missions is that no mention is made in the logs I am using of anything but regular bomb missions, however, I will take your advice and throw in a few things.

I just looked at this on a different computor... my other monitor is much darker, I will increase the darkness for the final release.
