Night Fighting Radar - cplpflumm - 18.09.2009
I have a simple question, is there a mod to add a spraker (radar operator) to night fighters? I mean is there a way to have something to point you in the direction of enemy A/C? I have seen some Betas but they only work for those plane that are downloaded, but I want to know if there is mod or one that can be created to add this the other night fighters? Also I am pretty sure that there was a F-4U night fighter with radar that was functional as well. Is there a way to bring this over to other aircraft? Any help would be great. Thanks again to this great community and all the modders that have made a great game even better.

Might be in the new 4.09 patch.

How would you use that? Wouldn't you need a back seater? Isn't that why the single seat fighters were not used extensively for night fighting ( the work load was to high)? It looks real cool though just like to know how to use it.

They might put in new options to map keys to or replace current ones.(Like what the bomb bay door mod does with the power 10 key) I don't know the details on how it will work.

No. Maybe in the patch after 4.09.

What I meant was how would you read it? It is not like a modern scope with dots and such. So what I am asking is if it is as complicated as it looks then how would you fly and fight? That was the problem they had in real life.

Very little info has leaked so far, so no one outside the dedalus team really knows how it's going to work. Seems to me they are still trying to figure out a way to make it functional and relatively easy to use, in a way that will allow them to implement similar systems to other aircraft in future patches, and that must take some time to achieve.
My guess is it will work like bombsights, from the 'bombardier' or 'rear gunner' position, with keys to adjust range/power or whatever those electronical devices do
.
Cheers

Not surprisingly very much like the real counterparts. As close as it's possible to implement. Including the same historical bugs and problems they had.
This should explain how to read the FuG220 CRTs.
Another great document:

Already working nicely, but they won't be simple to use. Just like the real radars were not simple to use. German AI radars worked much differently than US radars with PPI indicators. So it's not possible to use german radar code/3D in US planes. Many seems to think that the TD radars are some sort of generic thing that can be dropped to any plane that carried one.

Viikate,
Are there any plans to implement the Allied radars at any stage? maybe also ASV? Also are there any plans to add other detectors and/or jammers. Some examples are below (long list sorry). I am a great fan of the Bomber versus Nachtjagd battle, especially towards the end of the War with all the new Electronic Warfare equipment coming out. I know the list is quite exsaustive but there are few i would really love to see.
Any A.I or German radar
some sort of bombing aid (oboe,G-H,H2S)
some sort of radio navigation/ and or landing aids (GEE,SBA,Lorenz)
Any form of jamming
a good general site on WW2 Radar
