Smoke columns and flames - stanislao - 23.09.2009
One thing that should be still improved are the smoke columns emitted by vehicles destroyed or by damaged ships or that one available in the FMB to emphasize the buildings striked during the air raids. The smoke columns in Il2 rises vertically and this is highly unrealistic because the smoke usually spreads rapidly and diagonally respect the ground. Some attempts have already been made but the results are not yet realistic. Even the flames available in FMB are somewhat unlikely and those developed by Stuka_40 are not realistic even from faraway. A MOD of flames and smokes more natural would be a big step further in the realism of the air attacks at low altitude.

Good point to make but I guess it all depends on which direction the wind is blowing.
Also, your post is in the wrong forum and should instead be in one of the MODS discussion forums and not maps discussion. But maybe someone will develop the type of smoke you're looking for.

Well, i think that kind of effects (smoke/fire) which you want at the moment are not possible, because in il2 there is only 1 effect file that makes "smokes" and 1 other that makes fire for buildings, and with these limitations you can't do so much, ( someone must edit or make new class files that can make different kind of smokes and fires) if you remember by default there is no fire and smoke effects in the game, beside that kind of effects showed in picture, i think will not be so frame rate friendly!

Just what Stuka_40 have said , agree 100% .
Forget it , plain simple , sad but not much can be done .
We don't see anyone taking on overwhelming rewriting task of smokes and fire class files .
Game engine is not exactly smoke and fire particles processing friendly = too much FPS hit .
We tried to use literarily next to nothing particles for smokes effects and the more smoke is
growing hanging lingering around without some timely dissipation , the more graphics card
is still pushed to its knees and we're not talking about poop graphics cards .
Folks are using a lot effects=2 setting in con.ini which makes things not only worse for
FPS but also effects=2 is changing previously assigned smokes color quite considerably .
Rather than saying it looks not realistic , it's better to go ahead and trying to make it better .
I know exactly what you mean stanislao , I also want smokes bigger than State of Colorado
and fires licking flames looking so realistic , that it will get hot behind computer monitor but
it ain't gonna happen .

First of all many thanks for your Mods that I use all for long time on my computer and I always consider the best ever. I allowed a little criticism on the visual rendering of the flames in your Mod "VAS_Bomb_Expl + v1.01 Buildings in Fire" that also consider irreplaceable. The effect flame is too repetitive without variation in length, moving jerkily from right to left suddenly with a unnatural yield. Maybe adding a few more frames in the dynamics of movement could be improved by allowing FPS. In any case, my sincere thanks for your creations.
