[WIP] Map of Djibouti ver 1.1 - agracier - 25.09.2009
Here is link to download a map of the area around Djibouti/British Somalialand. It is a bleak desert area that did see fighting during WWII, though not very much. There are more notes on this in the readme/install files. These are contained in the rar file.
Here are a few screenshots to show how the landscape looks. Most of the shots are of the area around the city of Djibouti itself, but there are also inland lakes, salt flats and desert terrain galore.
This is version 1.1, with mainly a new updated actors.static file, containing many new objects. Notes on improvements can be found in the install/readme file.

Please take care to install the forest textures. There are also several other mods that you might need:
the Egypt Objects Mod and possibly the Lal_Fortifications mod.

Something extra to put the map into historical context. Here is a cover from a British war-time magazine showing a fictionalized illustration of British troops recapturing the coastal city of Berbera - which you can find on the map to the east.
The action isn't up to par with D-Day or Operation Torch, but it does give some inspiration for a possible mission.

Great map, absolutely one of your best!
And well appreciated scenery for air battles between RAF and Regia Aeronautica in that region...!

It's the Egypt objects by dlv that really give life to this map ... the contrast between the white colored houses and the reddish brown landscape is really brought out well when they start to appear in the distance. The Egypt objects pack is really a little masterpiece of a mod and perfect for adding the atmosphere and appearance to Eastern and desert landscapes.
Anyone found any dead camels yet?

I downloaded this desert map a couple of days ago and was not able to play the
Djibouti map. One time a black screen, the other time a white screen.
But when loading
Djibouti Brown no problemo. :???:
Now I had some time to find out how come and I noticed something in the
Djibouti load.ini. It says:
City0 = ag/Spain/gc_downcity.tga,4
City1 = land/summer/dlv_Malta_downcity.tga
City2 = ag/Spain/gc_downcity.tga,4
City3 = ag/Spain/gc_downcity.tga,4
But in your download this .tga is in
ag/Spain/dlv_Malta_downcity.tga
It is no problem changing the line in the load.ini or moving the .tga to the other map but what is the best option taking in account possible future maps with the same texture?
By the way, am I the only one who noticed it?
And before I forget to say: nice textures.

Hmmm ... I usually put all textures that I use for a map into one and the same texture directory, no matter if I made them or if they are stock, standard textures. That's to avoid problems of some members having the less usual stock textures already installed and those who do not already have them installed.
I would think it's best to do whatever works for you at the moment.
In the future I will try and make sure all textures, stock, standard or not, are all in the same directory of textures and that the load.ini reflects this.
And the funny thing is that in this case, there are no textures on the map corresponding to city1 ... so the whole line isn't even necessary ... as of this version.
Anyway, in a few days I will be posting a new updated version of this map with a much much larger actors.static (2mb instead of 500), and some better looking FMB maps for those who care about such things. I'll make sure that the load.ini's are checked for consistency and will also make sure that any missing textures are included as well.

New version, 1.2 updated with increase of random objects and new FMB maps, is up for download:
