Hello Everyone

I have looked at lots of posts here on the site, but as a complete novice to IL2 and mods I am completely confused as to what to download to get started. Firstly I should point out that I use IL2 1946 mostly in Quick Mission Mode and do not use it online at all! Unfortunately that is just not possible

To be specific I tend to use IL2 to make movies for my own amusement and my main interest is new Aircraft and anything that improves image quality and additional camera positions.

Hi steve and welcome to the forum!

Well, firstly (as I think you know) you need to patch our game to 4.08 which can be obtained here: http://www.fileshack.com/file.x/10155/I ... 4.08+Patch

Then you can install the unified installer 1.1 over this, viewforum.php?f=58
and the patch to go with that, (The link is inoperative)

This should be enough to get you started for now. I'm sure that others could point you towards specific mods which would interest you

This mod, though, is one that I really do recommend: (The link is inoperative) it really, really improves the smoke effects in the game

The other complication is v4.09

If you install UI 1.1 this includes a version switcher which allows you to easily switch from version 4.08 modded and unmodded to v4.09 beta modded and unmodded.

There has just been an official v4.09 final patch released. You are probably best advised not to install this yet and to wait until the work required to fully integrate the mods with it has been completed and all the bugs have been discovered. Give it two weeks.

Hi Steve, I only fly @home too, so like you I want it to look as pretty as possible! Once you've done the Unified Installer be sure to check out the PAT mod for new camera angles and rotations - you'll probably want a throttle control on your joystick or somesuch as it messes with the keyboard ones.

Also, as a movie maker, you'll be wanting the invisible camera plane....

Hi stevepaine,

That movie is bl**dy intense! Had me glued to the screen, very, very well made Like your tight cropping of scenes. I wasn't watching "just-another-IL2-track", I was watching a battle!

As others have recommended, get the mods and take it to the next level!

Also thank you very much for the kind comments about the movie, It has
always been an ambition of mine to make Air Combat movies and well
IL2 has made it possible... and I even get to fly some of the planes
