A buttons question for a dummy - Bob Holmes - 07.10.2009
You guys solved a graphics problem for me in the last day or two, now I have another problem (not graphics) I'd like to ask about.
I reloaded my modded game (I have several installations on my PC, modded and unmodded) since I had screwed something up. In the process, I wanted to install a new aircraft, the Typhoon. Did as the readme said, added lines to various places as required, etc. One of the things that was in the thread though, was a "buttons" file, along with a cockpit mod. Well, I had just replaced my buttons file with the new one from SAS so I assumed that the buttons file offered with the Typhoon download wouldn't be needed. It was quite a bit older. Well, my game had run fine up 'til that point, then, the dreaded 60% CTD thing happened, repeatedly. I have always thought the crash deal was when you had more than one buttons file. I looked, and there wasn't but one, the "new" SAS one. My question(s) - do the SAS buttons files include those aircraft from AAA, or just SAS ones? I think that the first time I used one of the buttons files from SAS was when I installed some Spitfires and Hurricanes from their site. Obviously I was wrong about crashes being caused by more than one buttons file? What could some of the other reasons be? What I did to correct my crashing was went back into the air.ini, plane_ru, weapons_ru files and deleted all the things I had added, and I went into my MODS folder and deleted everything related to the Typhoon. Now it all works again.
I would really appreciate any knowledge you'd impart.
Thank you

Bob, if you're using the SAS buttons, I'd suggest trying the Typhoon/Tempest pack available there, just to avoid unnecessary complications. That pack will work with SAS buttons, and has a few small 'extra' features, to boot.
