having taken a break from skinning for awhile... - Jaypack44 - 08.10.2009

Hi all, I just wanted to share one of my more recent projects... I haven't done any skinning work for awhile, because of a lot of personal stuff that's been going on that has basically taken my motivation to do much of anything... but in the last week or so I was given the assignment at work (I work for my university's digital media center) to make some tutorials for using GIMP. Around the same time I became interested in the profile painting section of the forums over at SPS, and so I decided to "cheat" a little, and use the profile I was working on to showcase the techiques I'll be talking about in the tutorials (which also gave me an excuse to work on the profile while at work... basically getting paid to play around!) Both the tutorials and the profile are very much WIP, but I just thought I'd share my progress, and see if you guys had any suggestions. The original image is almost 6000 by 3000 pixels, so it's a little big to post here, but I have some "excerpts" and some scaled shots:

Anyway, just thought I'd post and let y'all know I'm still alive, hopefully I'll have time to start skinning again soon...
Thanks for looking!

Confusedhock: Wow! That Ki-84 is looking real good! It's beautiful!

I hope you will start enjoy skinning again in the future. If you don't like doing it any more, for whatever reason, give it a rest. However, i must say you got a great talent for this!

Where can we find your (upcoming? ) tutorials?

I wish you all the best!

God that's amazing!! Wondering If you can take personal requests. Paying for them of course.

Thanks for your concern DBCooper, don't worry, I haven't given up on skinning, it's just that due to some very hard stuff that's been going on, I've had to force myself to do just about anything. Things are slowly getting better, but it's just going to take time... Hopefully I'll get the free time in the next couple of weeks to be able to start skinning again. (I think it might help me get my mind off things anyway, which is always a good thing...)

As for the tutorials, it will probably be awhile before I have them finished, but when I do, I'm planning on putting them up on several different sites, including here, SPS, and possibly M4T. There is also the possibility of me making video tutorials, so they will be posted on youtube, if they get made.

RealDarko, as far as paid personal requests go, I'd be all for it, but I'm not sure about copyright issues or anything, since the drawings I used aren't my own, and I also "borrowed" part of the lighting layer from the metal layer in the Jesters-ink skin template. I would be interested in possibly doing some work as per request though (not necessarily paid), depending on the aircraft and the complexity of the work (this is only my second attempt at doing a profile)...If you had a particular a/c in mind.
