Can't reinstall il2 - SOLVED!:) - reflected - 08.10.2009

I had to reinstall everything including il2. Here's my problem.
1: I've installed the 1946 version.
2: I run the patch 4.08m, and it says it can't create thsi and that file/folder. Why? Is there any other patch I should install? What's wrong?
I can't proceed to the installation of UI Sad

Thanks in advance!

Wow, something's wrong! I can't copy to/from that folder, and I can't create new folders either inside il2 1946. What the...?!

Hi m8, are you using vist? Because if you are, you will have to direct your il-2 1946 install to another location, as installing it to the programs folder doesn't allow you to edit the file structure due to vistas OTT safety methods.

Hope I'm of some help; it may be of use if you give us PC specs with regards to operating system etc Big Grin

I use XP. I didn't install it to Program Files but to a whole new drive. It worked before the reinstall. Then the file system went crazy...maybe it still is. Now I reinstall il2 to a different folder, under a different name, I hope it will work.

EDIT: It didn't work. I'm not allowed to create a folder under the main Il2 folder no matter what it's called.

Sorry buddy, I don't know how to help you :-? Have you tried installing it to my documents? or have you deleted all of your old files from your original install?

... do you have administrator rights for your account ?

if not , log in as administrator and change that ( if administrator as user not visible on welcome screen ... load XP in safe mod and you'll see it ... ) ... i hope you have password ( if admin account require one )

Yes, I'm the only user = admin, and I have a password. How do I load it in safe mode? What exactly shall I do?
Thanks!

EDIT: I've managed to log in as the Admin. I have 2 profiles:
1: Admin - protected by a password (that I know)
2: Greg (that's me) - with admin rights, but no password

Shall I log in as the Admin, and delete my account? Would it help to install Il2 to the C drive (not much space tho)

I'd certainly try the c drive. Also, you could click the il2.exe and see if the admin box is checked in order to run the game as an admin Wink

I can run the game, but I can't update the setup.exe, and I can't install 4.08m because it involves creating new folders, etc...(it wasn't a problem with other games)

if only Il2 game folder is problem ( you can create folders at other locations ) then
check properties / attributes for main game folder ... ( read only etc ... )

But there's hardly enough space on the other drive. That's the system drive. Is there anything I can do to install Il2 back on the "good old" D drive, the bigger one? Unticking "Read only" didn't help either. I'm startingto think that I'll never fly my Spitfire over the cliffs of Dover back from a sweep in France again Sad Sad Sad Sad

if don't want reinstalling...

... copy entire game folder to desired location /drive and just create desktop shortcut from its IL2fb.exe ( copied game folder can be named as you wish ...)

Nothing works...I'll bring it back to the shop so they can do it/ see why doesn't it work.

What's the battel order again?

1: il2 1946
2: 4.08m
3: UI 1.1

Is that it?

Is everything else that you have installed in the c drive more important than il-2? I mean, if you have (say) BoB2 installed: try copying that to another location to give you more space for il-2. I'm not saying that il-2 is more important than that; but this could be an alternative. At least seeing if it works well in the c drive could at least give you the answer that it will run (but only in this location) Big Grin
