Cockpit editing - =BOD=Thing - 10.10.2009
What do you need to do to say edit the cockpit of the P-51 so that a small picture of my wife would show up in that sucker? like taped to the control panel somewhere?

Why do you want to fly in a sucker?
- =BOD=Thing - 10.10.2009
well why not! if they could make a washing machine fly i would give it a go... But seriously is it possible? cause i have been all through the il2 files and cannot find any cockpit renders....

lol thats what i was thinking. no offense to anyone, but that crate flat out sucks. if you like stalling in any turn, bank or dogfight. youll love it.

easiest way i know is to download a cockpit repaint such as Freddy's P-51 Cockpit and swap out the pic from there with the one of your wife. thats what i did for my gf's pic.

Yeah i agree, i was just using it as an example. However if you are real careful at low speeds and use combat flap settings, its a good machine. Personally i like , not in any order, the P-39, P-40, Hurricane, Spitfire, FW190, Mosquito and a few others. But those are the ones i prefer to fly given a choice.

P-51 was designed for high altitude bomber escort.
Not designed for low level combat dog fights.
Hence, the perceived lack of performance.

P39 goes into a flatspin really easily and then you cant recover it.

yep, due to the laminer flow type wing. it hindered low altitude manuevering , but excelled at high altitude. which is where it was used most. if you read richard curtis's book " dumb but lucky" , he emphasizes that the US mandated 200 hours on the p-51 alone before it was to be flown in combat. a lot of great men died in that aircraft due to their lack of understanding, daringness or lack of skill while flying the p-51 "not" in combat. but in low altitude accidents.

* Moved to the right area.
And lads. Keep it to topic.
If you wanna bimble on about the 51's poor maneuverability, take to spray and pray please.
