Ground textures on maps randomly turn black - MercenaryMuffin - 12.10.2009
So...as if the Russ/3DO/Paratrooper thing wasn't annoying enough, I now seem to have the ground textures on maps randomly turning black and featureless. If I don't quit out of the game immediately when this happens, the game freezes up. It's happened to me the last 4 out of 5 missions I've played, and it's driving me insane.
Any idea as to what might be causing this?

Are you running on Direct X or Open GL?
- MercenaryMuffin - 12.10.2009
Open GL on an ATI 4800 series card.

CCC settings make sure the setting on;
your Anti Alasing should be 8x and save then check on use application settings and save again.
Anistropic filtering 8x save then check use aplication settings and save again.
the Catalyst Advanced AI settings are on standard you don't need to disable.
Mip map high performance
Wait for Vertical refresh high performance
Adaptive Anti Alasing performance and make sure checked enable save all these settings.
Run the game again make sure to load a quik mission and do some dog fighting over a city or mountainous region. if this causes problems with the advanced drawing
where you scenery looks like it just pops up in front of you, run the il2 set up again and reclicking the maximum setting in the video tab. Make sure your in open GL and when you run the game go to hardware and ensure the video option is showing Open Gl if not just change it to open gl.
good luck let us know how this worked..
(Also if your running other games like Americas army 3 you will need to make sure you running controlled application settings in the CCC as your HUD will not work in that game with custom setting on..)

I believe I may have found, at the very least, part of the problem. I can run the ground detail settings at Excellent, but not Perfect. Which is weird, because I used to run it at Perfect all the time, and it has only given me trouble recently. I went to change the ground detail to Perfect after running all the CCC checks you said, and sure enough, the ground went black. I changed it back to Excellent and it seems to be okay.
Shame I can't see ground detail at its highest, but if it means less game interruptions, so be it.
Thanks for your help, I'll post here if anything pops up again.

Okay, nevermind, the problem is back. Still get the black ground textures, still have the game crash, still have to re-size my monitor settings every time it happens.
Same problem: black maps - Guest - 12.11.2009
I have the same issue here with ATI Radeon HD4500, at open GL. Can
- MercenaryMuffin - 23.11.2009
Well, I searched for that phrase and none of it was really any help, I still get the problem.
Unless someone knows something that can be done, I might have to reinstall the whole damn game all over again...and replace my sound files...and my mods. Again. Oh goody.

Hi
not a tekkie in any way, in fact i normally ask for advice when needed. However my opinion is:
1. Wrong graphic driver or its corrupted.
2. Your pushing your system too much, ie you are not supplying enough power to your sytem.
3. not enough memory.
4. damaged graphic card
I would advise -
1. play on medium settings & see what happens.
2. if problem persists, uninstall g/card driver, install new one & try again on medium settings.
3. make sure you ask around at what is the best compatible driver for your card, the latest is not necessarilly the best in my expirience.
good luck

Well there's no way it's not enough memory or power, this computer can max-out Crysis. Only IL-2 gives me problems. I'll try putting some things on medium settings, though.

Hmm...after turning ground textures down to medium, things seem to work just fine. A shame that I have to turn down settings on a game as old as IL-2, on a system as spankin' as mine, but if it lets me fly...so be it.

It's probably a compatibility issue. Some older games would do stuff like that on new systems.
