SAS Buttons file - sentinel - 15.10.2009
Dear All,
Just a quick question aboit the SAS Buttons file.............When someone puts a new aircraft into the game and downloads and uses it, will the new Buttons file overwrite the SAS one and so the game will not work properly?
Or is it a case of developers taking the old buttons and adding to it so it becomes a new buttons file?
Best regards,
Sentinel.

hi sentinel
your game will only ever use one buttons file, you can't have multiple ones. If you download a new plane with new buttons, the new buttons will over-ride the old one. If ever in doubt, ALWAYS make a backup of your buttons before using a new one. In fact, make a backup even if you have no doubts. Do it as a matter of course, and you will always be covered. Always, always, always backup! The SAS buttons tries to keep up to date with all the latest releases, but also remember that if you are an onliner, you will have problems using the SAS buttons.
Even though we try to keep up to date, there is always the chance that somebody will release a new plane with its own new FM incorporated in the buttons, so there might still be a delay of a few days before they can retrieve that info from the buttons and incorporate it into their own. This stands true for all sites, so the onus is really on the guy downloading the new plane and buttons, to check whether his game will be compatible or not.
If you stick to this most basic of rules (BACKUP!) you will never have a problem. If you download and try a new plane with a new buttons, and it crashes your game, you can always revert back to your previous buttons until the new plane can be incorporated into the buttons. Hope this isn't too confusing, and that it answers your question.... 8)
As a sidenote to members who want to know, there should be an announcement soon, hopefully, but SAS should be back up and running by tomorrow, all going well 8)

SAS Buttons is probably the best if you only play offline.
If you play online even just occasionally best to stick to the latest AAA buttons.
They are not interchangeable due to effects on sounds and online compatibility.
If you are using the AAA buttons you can always install the latest even if you do not install all the aircraft.
--- but if you have aircraft installed which are not included on the buttons then you will get crash at 60%
When changing the buttons always back up the old one so that you can go back to a proven installation.
I always install new aircraft manually and add the entries to the bottom of the ini and properties files so that the entries are easy to locate and disable if there is a problem.

PS Hope to see the SAS site up again soon.

The Buttons file is called buttons and its default location is at C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\IL2 Sturmovik\files\gui\game

Swell to hear you're coming back soon.

actually SAS updates their buttons file every time AAA, Ultrapack, HSFX, C6 and ALL other modding communities do. Therefore they maintain MAXIMUM compatibility.
On a side note.
they also use the most realistic FM (in there opinion, based on data) possible for ALL planes.

Everyone has the same thing, except that we do not change human flyable aircraft.

Keep in mind, though, that if you have installed a buttons in the SAS location, at ...MODS\STD\gui\game\ that a buttons file in that location will override any buttons in the AAA location ...files\gui\game\ location, so make sure you check in both locations when sorting out buttons issues.
I keep my SAS buttons in the SAS location, and my AAA buttons in the AAA location. Offline, the SAS buttons overrides the AAA buttons. When I fly online, I rename the SAS buttons to disable it. Very simple....as long as I remember to do it.
