If I want to add my own 50-cal MG effects to a P-47.... - Mysticpuma - 15.10.2009
What files do I need to replace, how long can they be (in audio duration) and what sample rate do they need to be.
I have a sound file I used in Not my time to die for the P-47's .50-cal gunfire which I really like and would like to add.
It's a sample of 8x.50 calibre's firing and I'd love to try it out.
Can anyone tell me how?
Cheers, MP.

Ahhhhh Pretty simple.
Open your audio editing program. I use Sony Vegas.
And also check how long the 50.cal length is in Il-2. By either opening that file too or hovering your mouse over it.
Cut your new sound to that length, check the sound still sounds like its a constant fire of the MG's.
Save it as a .wav file
done! rename it as the current 50.cal file and paste it in!
and go in and check it, check its not too loud etc etc.

it appears that these 2 files are named backwards in the UI 1.2; (edit)
C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 mod\files\Samples\MG_Browning50.wav
C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 mod\files\Samples\MG_Browning50x.wav
take the "x" off the the end of the file name and put it on the other.
the internal sound was tagged as the external sound and vice versa.
another method is to find a sound you like and just rename it to that file name. the X = the external sound

Curious. When I play both files they sound exactly the same to me. Maybe I'm tone deaf and just can't pick up the difference.

The only problem with using a sound sample of 8 .50 cals firing is that other planes in the game that only have 2 or 4 guns (such as the SBD Dauntless and P-39/P-63) will not sound right. The game uses the same sound file (MG_Browning50.wav) for all planes that are equipped with the Browning .50 caliber machine gun (regardless of the number of guns per plane).
