APIT - .50cals - Classic EAF19 - 16.10.2009
I see the new P51s are supplied with APIT ammo belts. Can someone please tell me just what is improved with APIT ammo?
Secondly what aircraft are using the APIT ammo?
Thirdly can we have the APIT ammo in the new B25s, and P38s? For that matter can someone release all of the american aircraft again but armed with the APIT ammo with no other changes, surely thats not to hard a mod to make, if so that would be fantastic.
Oops one last thing, is this APIT ammo the same as what is used in the ultrapack? I have flown the UP a lot lately and the .50cals in that mod pack are so much more deadly than in the original or the UI (at least I think they are
). In both the original and the UI the .50cals seem very underpowered and only a perfect convergence burst of fire will achieve any noteable results, even Zeros can be peppered and not catch fire, thats not the same any more in the UP and I hope now in the UI with APIT as well.

AFAIK only the new P-51's and the F-86-A5 use the new Ammo. I don't think anybody at AAA will make it retro to the older stock planes. Not sure where the info is kept for that, but I think it is in the FM/EM files someplace; which AAA has decided it will not mess with because of online compatability. Could be mistaken, though.

No I dont expect that either, I am pretty sure that is against AAAs rules, but if some kind modder were to tackle all of the american .50cal armed aircraft and change nothing but the .50cals armament and then release all aircraft as, for example F6F-5(APIT) so it is clear which has the new ammo belts I am sure the community would appreciate it
Hell if I could mod I would certainly give it a go
do we have any teachers here

Added slot aircraft which use the new API
B25-D5-NC
B25-D20-NC
B25J-15-NC
B25J-22-NC
P51D-20-NT
P51D-25-NA
P51D-30-NA
F51D-30-NA
B24J (mod)
B17G_Mod

Thanks Monguse, thats great to hear that at least the new aircraft have the new API ammo.
Can you please tell us the difference between the old .50cal ammo and the new API .50cal ammo?

More penetration and a little bit of zip. I'll explain in more detail once I post a FAQ thread
BTW, they are not miracle ammo, you still need to hit the target.

Thanks Monguse.
Dont worry I am under no illusions
But I have flown in the ultrapack and in there the .50cals are much more effective against aircraft, even FWs can be flamed quite easily with an accurate burst of fire.

As Classic EAF19 said, if some modder were to make a "clone" of a current US/Allied Aircraft using the Browning M2 .50 cal, but coding it with APIT ammo instead in a separate slot, then that would be okay right? (I guess that would be a long process, but im keeping my hopes up for a mod like that in the distant future)

It's a little more involved than that but basically yes.

It's an excellent and long awaited improvement. Planes you hit with this weapon tend to burn more often, or get PK, crew killed, engine killed, control cables cut etc. more often, while they seem to loose structural integrity less often that with old .50 cals. Which is
exactly what one would expect. In real life more Zeros went down because they were on fire, not because they were missing a wing. Excellent work in my opinion. Thanks to all involved.

About that FQ on contents and API as soon as I have some time away from cleaning the bug reports area and support I'll be posting

I wish we'd get it for the Martlett and Hellcat.
