Mouse problem after Win 7 install - Bob Holmes - 22.10.2009

Today, I downloaded and installed Windows 7 Home Premium (32 bit) upgrade. All went well until I started to try all the programs to see if everything would run. All are OK thus far. IL2FB loaded up, looked good until I started to try and use the mouse. It wouldn't work. This is the only instance I have found that there was a mouse problem. Any ideas? Suggestions?

Thanks.

You may just have the "frozen mouse" problem. It has nothing to do with Windows 7. IL-2 is really touchy, and if youmess something up (people are still trying to figure what it is, you mouse will freeze at the main menu. The only way around this is:
1. Reinstall from scratch
2. press your "windows" button (to the left of Alt) and then double click the IL-2 program in the task bar.

Me, I opt for a reinstall to avoid the constant mouse freeze.

When you say it don't work, did you try to get ALT - Tab or ctrl-alt-del to show the task manager and then come back into il2 ?

It seems that when it load (with or without the mods) the il2 something happen that make windows loose the focus on the il2 executable
and when you get in the game you have to get the focus back on it.

In effect you have the impression that you are in the game, but it don't react as it's in fact in the same state as if you have "alt-tabed" it.

In hope that help.

PS: if i may just add to Panama, the only fact to add a click somewhere when il2 is loading can end you with the lost focus situation
so reinstall is not a necessity ;-).

I found that once it "lost focus", it would continue to "mouse freeze" the first time I played the game after booting up. This is why I just reinstalled the game/UI and the problem went away.

Just for the heck of it, I tried starting the game from within the 'C' drive instead of 'F' which I have been using. I have the game, modded and unmodded, on three different drives. Well, the mouse worked. For some reason I guess it didn't like my 'F' drive installation. Go figure! Anyhow, I guess my problem is kinda solved, although I don't have a clue why. From what you said, it wasn't a Win 7 thing. Lord knows. Sad

Reinstalling the game won't fix anything. All you need to do is once you click on the game icon, don't do anything until the game is loaded. If the mouse "freezes", CTRL+ESC to jump to desktop, then click on IL2 in the taskbar to give it focus again, then hit the CONTROL key once (or same procedure with the Windows key, no control key required). The game freezes when it loses focus before it has finished loading, it happens in all versions, modded or not.

Thanks for your help. I'll try it.
