How do i take screenshots? - armydan - 28.10.2009
I'm aware that the printscreen button should take a screenshot, but when i press the button nothing happens... Should something happen or does it just place that pic i took into a file?
I also have Xfire which can take pictures, but for some reason in il-2 it wont let me.

It puts a .tga (targa) image in your game folder, named grab0000.tga, grab0001.tga, etc.

that's the problem... i press the printscreen button, but after i exit to see if the file is there it isn't.

On most keyboard, PrntScrn requires the shift key to access it, i.e.: Shift+PrtScn
Almost any good paint program will open a targa. I use Paint Shop Pro, but I'm sure there are some free ones.
Google is your friend.

Yep, Thats how they are named.
You can find those files typically here:
C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946
To open and edit them, download the GIMP. Which is a free photoshop program which I, and many other people use to create skins. I prefer GIMP over photoshop to make my skins as its more user friendly in that area. And has more tools and options.

I use Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007 to get great results. PowerPoint allows the user to capture a screenshot and edit it in nice ways. Add text into the scene, crop, and resize are some of a bunch of features. Being able to save in one of many file formats and the easy to use functions are good things about it, too.
I believe there is still a free trial offer that would let you use it for a month or more.
