I Know you should not change existing FM but... - Ala13_Kokakolo - 02.11.2009

I will do an exception with the kate and the Advenger, or at least create new slots for them. I'm not asking for a dogfight plane that will make me invencible. Only some changes in the FM that allow this two plane (and all their variations) to be flown without sharp and constant adjustments. I know someone has already corrected (or try to) this issue. But it was simply not enougt. Please just take the kate with a torpedo and try to do a normal level fly, trim and all the lot. Now an advenger. You will see what I,m talking about.

So I please BEG you all modders to change that FM to anything flyable. Whatever. Put the FM of anyother plane if you like. Whatever will be better than the one this planes have.

lol, i give it about 4 post before this is locked.
look mate, they wont touch the FM of stock planes which is what it is all about. new slot planes must be handed over with new FM. That is the ONLY way a stock plane can get a new FM.

Don't worry it wont be locked.

During initial talks we all decided we move forward and adopt new updated FM for the AI based on HSFX (the MOD SFS files guys) . That way we could all adopt a standard.

1.2 adopted much of the AI FM to start off with and 1.2.5 and beyond will do so as well. This we did in part because the community at large has a huge legacy mainly in the former AI where online/offline/single user campaigns have been distributed on forums. Another reason is that this also helps in reducing the mod footprint by not adding yet another aircraft slot.

As noted, the AI will get an update but items that will remain core to any UI are:

New Slotted aircraft, here the rules are open as long as it it historical we can add correct FM, DM, weapons, skins, new paintschemes and the like.

The reason for dividing behavior is because modded servers (not running crt2) can host either existing game aircraft knowing that their weapons and FM have not changed.

If however, the server CRT2 then the issue becomes mute because the user needs to satisfy the server's content requirement.

Getting back to the Avenger and Kates, we used HSFX as the standard. If tweaks need to be done then I will wait for the originators to update and when the update is complete we will use it. Why we will wait is simple, "too many chefs in the kitchen" kind of thing. Since HSFX is making the changes we will stay out of the AI FM Kitchen.

Unfortunately and historically speaking some users take the FM's tweak it but no one shares that data with the originators making compatibility next to impossible.

Seeing that the HSFX guys sent us their FM so we could be in synch I'm not changing the AI FM's as that would break any compatibility. Therefore we wait for updates.

Hope this answered your question.

Monguse,

Just to give you some props, you are the most resonable person around keep it up. My squad loves the Avenger and ran that mod for the AI in internal servers and it was nice, not sure if it was perfect but much better than the AAA one where the left troque is too much.

So thanks and this is a great example of how all of life should be. Find a problem and use common sense to fix it.

S!

Has it occured to you that not all aircraft fly smooth and sweet? These days we're blessed (and spoiled) by a century of research and experience in aerodynamics. Cessna can now build aeroplanes that all but fly themselves without an autopilot. However, back in 1940 or thereabouts, aerodynamics wasn't quite as precise a science. Designers were clever people more often than not but they had to take a best guess, and if you notice, there were plenty of prototypes that simply couldn't cut it, either because their performance, handling qualities, inherent layout, or structural strength didn't meet the standard required for cutting edge state-of-the-art warplanes. And that, regarding the Kate, is exactly what it was when the Japanese first built it.

Okay, the fm may not be perfect. But can you honestly tell me the original aeroplane was too? Lots of people died in WW2 aeroplanes through simple accidents - and still do.

 it was exactly 4 posts! But it is unlocked again now...

Just want to add my agreement to what Monguse said there. Sounds very reasonable!

Since there's already a cooperation going on with the "History Mod" SFS guys, are there plans to go SFS with the UI too? I ask this because i installed the History Mod out of curiosity and noticed a HUGE improvement in load time as well as the space it takes up on the HD compared with the UI.

Radoye

It's in the works but needs testing. What I might do for the time being is release the quick patch which is working but not until I get some last minute bugs worked out.

Roger that, thanks for the info!
