Map building tutorial updated - kevinp - 02.11.2009
I just thought I should tell you all that my tutorial is now at version 3. Not much has changed, I've added a bit of information that you may (or may not) find useful.
I am no longer using Clockwatchers Elevation table. I had a close look at it & realized it was not completely accurate, it only contains 222 colours instead of 256 colours, so I made my own one which I have included with the new tutorial. All credit to Clockwatcher though for his invaluable introduction to Microdem.
The other things I have added are a technique for blending the edges of textures & an explanation of how to make map_T with Microdem. This latter was something farang65 wanted me to explain, so I thought I would add it to the tutorial.

The first tutorial got me started with maps. The newer version will help make them better ... many thanks for the effort in making these tutorials. I bet it's more work than making a map itself ...
Hi Kevin - farang65 - 03.11.2009
Thanks so much for the update.
Your information is always highly valuable and appreciated.
Lately I tried the first 16 rgb microdem texturing method then I tried your 5 rgb texturing method.
Have been comparing the two.
I now use a mix of your methods and some of clock watchers methods.
No harm in learning new methiods,
Your map_T method in Microdem is very very interesting.
