Trucks and trains won't cross over bridges - Hairog - 03.11.2009
I must be missing something. I have a mission that involves trucks, trains and planes rushing to get over a river ahead of the advancing Soviets. I can't get anything to cross a bridge.
I've formed a pocket on one side of a river and my troops should be trying to leave the pocket and cross bridges to the other side of the river but in the FMB they will only go so far and then I can't place and end point any farther.
Another interesting thing is that my trains will only go for about a minute in length along the track and again I can't get them to go any farther whether there is a bridge or not and on either side of the river.
What to do?
Try placeing the way poins - Guest - 03.11.2009
further on down the line.....
with trains you can only have 2 waypoints.....zoom right in on the track befor placeing the second waypoint....

But can tanks or vehicles cross a bridge?
yes - Guest - 04.11.2009
as long as the waypoint is beyond the bridge and not on the bridge.

Even I have noticed some bridges unusable from vehichle and trains in some map!
If I remember right one is the Desert On-Line that I have used for some test!!
I have tried to put a waypoint near the bridge but it can't even be put near because it run away from it!
I have thinked about some errors into the map textures!
I'll search the correct locetion if I can and I'll serarch for the map ed_map_t.tga!
cheers

Zoom close to bridge. Put waypoint before bridge and then next waypoint after bridge! You always have to this with bridges!

if it is a mod map and the map maker used a object bridge instead the actual in-game bridges, it's possible the AI will see the bridge as a collision hazard and not pass over it.

also zoom in and make sure its either a rail bridge or a road bridge.
you might be trying to get them to cross the wrong type of bridge

What did you mean about? Can you explain better please?

If the map-maker has used things from the objects menu to lay down a bridge instead of using the proper bridge...then they will not work properly. Default bridges can only be used if the river is at sea-level and if the terrain is high this will cause the rivers to be at the bottom of valleys or canyons. The keep it natural sometimes the map builder chooses to ignore that and so is unable to use the default bridges.
Bridges built from objects will be ignored by the auto road/rail process which lays waypoints for trains and vehicles to follow a road rail/line.

Thank you for all the replies. I still don't know what was causing it but I just wiped the slate clean and started over and everything now works fine. Both trains, convoys and armor are rushing over the river running from the massive Soviet onslaught like they should.
This mission is a hoot as well. Keep the bridgehead open as long as you can to get as many assets across the river and then blow the bridges before the Soviet forces capture them.
Not too many jets in this one as it is early in the war. Just tons of late model piston aircraft as neither side has had time to produce many jets and are holding them back from combat. Tempest vs Yak9, P - 38 vs Lagg 7, P 47 vs TU 2, P51 vs IL10, PE3 vs ME 410 etc.
