DGen.exe problems remain - achilles - 12.11.2009
Thoug I thought my problems were solved, they were not. I even launched the problem on a Mission4Today forum. Below the latest message I launched to make clear what the problem realy is.
What I did the last few days: I installed a fresh 4.07 version without any updates, just a NODVD patch and let it run free. Through msconfig I disabled all programs running. Just Windows XP was active and still the error appeared. Even with 4.08 and 4.09 on top the problem remained. More remarkable: no DGenerror file to be found. That was also the case on the many previous occasions. It seems DGen makes the Campaign go into failure but does not register the failure. Only the Debriefing file shows something is wrong. For instance in my latest try out: the file reads the player has been killed while I scored two kills and landed safely.
Question is right now: what can be done about this strange "bug". I also think other IL-2 fanatics have the same problem. I launched a question about the DGen.exe error on All Aircraft Arcade Index and it was read many times, but no one replied. There is something going wrong and I think it is serious. After 31 re-installs and try outs to exclude every bad running program possible (Registry Booster, AVG anti virus etc) I came to one single possibility: the latest Windows XP update.
Everything I tried turned out badly. Even a new install from the DVD without any updates or Mods gave problems after two or three missions.
Hopefully someone comes up with a sollution. I strongly believe I am not the only one in the IL-2 world who has this problem.

Did you tried the EnjoyR Dgen patch at mission4today.com?
- achilles - 13.11.2009
I tried several DGen patches, one of them the 4.0.8.6 and this is the the - or one of the - EnjoyR Patches from one of his campaigns. The problem was not solved. Pitty.
Thanks for the advise any way.

Hello Achilles! I have the same kind of problem with DGen.exe. All was ok circa the one month ago. Now I have still DGen.exe errors... I installed the 4.0.8.7 Dgen.exe from EnjoyR Patch few days ago, but problem is still the same. I hope, that somebody will found a solution...

I think the the mystery is solved. Are you using AVG anti virus version 9.0? I am using it and according to other guys all problems started after the upgrade of AVG to the 9.0 version. If I look back to it, all problems started after their upgrade, which was very shortly after Windows sent theirs. I will try out everything today and let you know if AVG 9.0 is the bad guy for DGen. The guys on Mission4Today I have contact with, figured out AVG was messing up DGen on their system. So... with a bit of luck this mystery can be transformd to the world of science.
Greetings

A new install of AVG and excluding the IL-2 1946 Map and the DGen.exe file separately in Resident Shield - manage exceptions will do the trick. A complete disabling of the anti virus program proved the game went perfectly.
I you install the new AVG version remove the old version completely.
So, problems solved I think!
Thanks to everyone who made sugestions and helped me to find the right way.

Where is Il2 1946 Map? Is that a folder or exe.?
I'm having the same problems here after AVG update. Did a whole IL2 reinstall, didnt fix it. Wish I'd read this first.

I tried disabling AVG, but the game is completely hosed (dgen part anyway). None of the Enoyer campaings work now, either locking up before load, or locking up at the end of first mission. Enjoyer is about all I played, if I cant figure this out, my IL2 days are over. I'm gonna delete the whole damn thing. Been dicking with this for 2 days now.

Complete uninstall of AVG fixed my problem (whew!).
I'm now using Microsoft Security Essentials (free virus/malware protection).

Heh, I resigned AVG too. The Il2 is more important!
I'm using Avira now and all is ok. Cheers and thanks for solution achilles!
