What is a wireless router and how does it work? So, I'm getting a notebook and am going to use the internet a lot. With a wireless router, would I be able to go to different parts of the house and still use the internet?

Well a wireless router is like a small computer who's sole purpose is to exchange information with other computers in and around your house using radio wave to transmit the information instead of sending it down a wire.

This go's a little bit more in depth http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-a-wireless-router.htm

And this might help all so http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleID=1428

So in answer to you 2nd question, YES you can use it all round the house, but connection to the wireless router may vary from place to place due to the wireless router have to broadcast round walls and though doors ect...
