Win7 and Xi-Fi Xtreme PCI sound problems? -
slipper - 27.11.2009
Hi all,
I have a problem with sound in my Il-2 1946 setup. I have just recieved a new computer running Win7 and with a Creative Labs Sounblaster Xi-Fi Xtreme PCI sound card. The problem occurs on a standard install (4.09) and on a modded install so i do not think it is a mod problem. I have read that there is supposed to be a problem with sound cards and Win7, so hopefully someone may have had the same problem as me and know how to rectify it.
Initially i had no sound at all, so i looked at the Creative site and downloaded a program called Alchemy which is supposed to sort out Win7 and Creative cards sound issues, this was partly a succes as i now have engine sounds whilst in cockpit view, but all other sounds ( machine guns, flaps, cannon ) are all very quiet, in fact hardly noticable. In external view i get no sound at all.
I have searched on the web, but can not find anyone with the same problem, and i have tried different sound card drivers all with no success.
I am really out of ideas know, so was wondering if anyone has the same set up that is working ok, or any help in to what i may try next.
failing that, i would be interested to know what sound cards people have found to work without any problems with games and Win7.
Thanks all for any feedback and advivce.
Yours frustrated

Sound Blasters have always been touchy with this game.
1st Make sure that you've selected 22khz for your sound quality.
2nd Make sure EAX Extensions are disabled.
3rd Try disabiling hardware excelleration for your card.
That should get you working again.

Thanks for the reply jinx,
1) done that
2) Where do i disable EAX extensions?
3) I don't think win7 has this option (should be in dxdiag) but its not
thanks again

I think these options are in IL2Setup.exe file.

hi slipper
to de/activate EAX you have to possibilities:
- in game menu go to hardware settings, then to sound settings under audio there is a switch to enable/disable hardware extensions (switch it to off)
- in conf.ini:
open conf.ini with ,for example, notepad
search in section [sound] for
SoundFlags.hardware=1
