Chaco Map ver 2.0 - updated, expanded, retextured - agracier - 04.12.2009

The first map I posted was one of the Gran Chaco area, between Paraguay and Bolivia, these 2 countries fighting a war for control of the region in the 1930's.

The map was a first effort and is by now a bit embarrassing to open and fly around in. So an overhaul was certainly long overdue. This is now version 2 of the Gran Chaco area. In it virtually the entire map, with possible exception of the height map, has been redone almost from scratch. Some features:

-new FMB map
-vastly expanded actors.file
-all cities and towns, villages, hamlets and fortifications re-populated and expanded
-more cities added (Asuncion now in more correct geographical location)
-more airfields added including for floatplanes
-river system expanded and heights corrected
-new 1024 pix textures used
-bridges added (as objects)

The overall look and feel should be more up to date with other current releases.

Here are a few screenshots to give you an idea of how the map now looks.

This will give you an expanded bombed terrain and a vastly expanded trench system around the Fortin de Bouqueron area.
For more info, see a later post on page 2. Backup the files you will be overwriting first.

As an extra something, above is a link to some 300 skins for Bolivian and Paraguayan aircraft. Many are fictional profiles, but others are hacks of existing aircraft. The filename should make clear enough which is which. These were made for fun and are not meant to be other than useful skins for anyone interested in flying on the map. All credits for original template makers were left on the skins. To which thanks.

A number of textures used in the map are from mixx's excellent Zapolar map. Also thanks to Redko for his explanation of texture making. And especially thanks to Cracken for his idea for the map in the first place.

Confusedhock:

OH MY GOD !!

This mean I'll have to redo the the whole 90+ mission about the Chaco War that are part of the big campaign I'm working on!!!

Man, you really know how to make a man stay busy, huh?

But that's good... An opportunity for me to make a better job...

And from the pictures you posted, it looks AWESOME!!

I'll check the skins, too, and maybe will give you some feedback via PM.

Cheers and thank you!

If you've already made missions based on the older map, they should not be a loss. I have not removed any of the old airfields, or deleted any towns that were on the old map either. I added lots of new towns and some airfields, but all the old ones are still in place.

Fortin de Bouqueron is also in the same location, but with new textures to simulate a contested and fought over area and with an expanded trench system.

And on towns, only Asuncion was moved to a more correct geographical location. On the old map it was not located on the river front. Now it is.

So, all in all I hope you'll still be able to use the missions you've already made. Or at worst, just make a few adjustments here and there.

Roger that, Agracier! This is a quite good news.

I've already downloaded the new version, installed ( I SWEAR I did everything as per instructions).
But I'm getting some loading problems with the new Chaco map.
This is what appears when trying to load it:

World.land ().LoadMap () error: java.lang.RuntimeException: Landscape 'ag_Chaco/load.ini' loading error

Please, can you enlight me on what is going wrong? Maybe I'm missing something?

Thank you in advance!

- agracier - 04.12.2009

When you load, can you hit the error console - shift+tab - and let me know what it says down near the bottom.

There should be an 'ERROR notice describing what the problem is.

- agracier - 04.12.2009

No, I'm pretty sure what the error is.

Either place all the textures 'dlv_green_brown_rom_wood0.tga (0 through 4) in the following folder:

..._Tex/forest/summer/

_________________

or else replace these lines in the load.ini

Wood0 = forest/summer/dlv_green_brown_rom_Wood0.tga
Wood1 = forest/summer/dlv_green_brown_rom_Wood1.tga
Wood2 = forest/summer/dlv_green_brown_rom_Wood2.tga
Wood3 = forest/summer/dlv_green_brown_rom_Wood3.tga
Wood4 = forest/summer/dlv_green_brown_rom_Wood4.tga

with the following lines:

Wood0 = ag/Chaco/dlv_green_brown_rom_Wood0.tga
Wood1 = ag/Chaco/dlv_green_brown_rom_Wood1.tga
Wood2 = ag/Chaco/dlv_green_brown_rom_Wood2.tga
Wood3 = ag/Chaco/dlv_green_brown_rom_Wood3.tga
Wood4 = ag/Chaco/dlv_green_brown_rom_Wood4.tga

Sorry about that. I will update and change the upload file

Are you a Wizard?
You exactly figured out what was the problem !

Ha ha ... no wizard me ... rather the dumb-bell who still hasn't learned about the tree textures. Somewhere I must have downloaded and installed a whole bunch of new tree textures that are not standard. I seem to tend towards using them since they look so well. But I always forget that not everyone has these textures installed ... tree textures tend to be overlooked in the grand scheme of texturing maps ...

LOL...

BTW...
Seems the missions I made on the old map are impossible to load on the new one...
Waited 45 minutes for one of them to load but with no results.

A little thing... On most of the airfields one of the take-off directions are inverted. Planes start the take off outside of the strip, and they go to the centre of it, where they actually lift up.
This is a minor issue, and I hope it will be easily addressed.

I just checked on the skinpack download and it works fine for me - and moreover there have already been several dozen downloads done to date ... so it might be something at your end ... sometimes you cannot download files simultaneously ... ?

A shame on the missions you already made. I cannot confess to being very knowledgeable on that subject. I left the size of the map exactly the same, pixel perfect match. Perhaps though, you ought to check that the .mis file you created has the correct name for the map to be loaded.

I can not remember the original name i gave to the first map (Chaco?). You might check your .mis files, open them up and check that the text lines start thus:

[MAIN]
MAP ag_Chaco/load.ini

On airfields - I'll check on the take-off points or whatever they are called. I didn't build airfields myself, but rather copy/pasted them from standard maps and then embellished with extra objects, groundplates and the like.

And info on airfields is always appreciated. I can't say that doing deep research is a strong point of mine.

- Guest - 04.12.2009

Don't worry, I figured out a way to dig out all I need from the missions I made using the old map, and transfer to the new one. The old and still good "copy and paste" way. Then a bit of tweaking to make all settle right to the new map, and Voil
