Sound card? with win7 - moxy - 07.12.2009
Hi all
Ive been doing a lot of research, on Sound blasters.
My question is...."With a SB x fi extreme gamer, will you get, stereo/positional EAX, with hardware/extensions on in game, using Alchemy or Dan K package,
in win 7"
Long question, I know, let me explaine.
Ive been chasing sound, for awhile, and have posted, including Creative, I wish to buy this card, but if it isnt an improvement over my audigy..well
What Ive learned, is that X-fi , (If im correct) has its own acceleration on board, instead of the CPU, which win 7 does not support.
If its says X-fi on the label, its not necessarily true, (extreme audio, does not have an X-fi chip)
Alchemy is not supported in 7. (More or less, same question, as above, more detailed to creative, the response, not supported)
Ive had a few nice posters, respond to my threads, the answers, although. In grateful for the response, have not answered my inquiry.
IE "My card works perfectly" when I know it can not.
It seems such, a simple question, which I just can seen to get an answer to.
X-fi user that I know are on xp, Creative, well just didn't help.
If someone would be willing to help, and doesn't know.
A test would be, to turn on, Hardware/Extensions on in game, sit in-pit, and turn your head.
My wife, would like to get this for me for X-mass, It would be wonderful, if it works
Thanks
Moxy

moxy,
I recently purchased a new computer with Win7 Home Premium (64-Bit), and a Creative SoundBlaster Xi-Fi Xtreme 24-bit audio card (PCI). I tried for about a month to get the sound card to work with il-2 1946, i could get some sounds but not all, i posted here at SAS and M4T for help but even with the advice given had no luck.(tried EAX,Alchemy everything)
Checking the creative forums it appears a lot of people are having problems with Thier cards and Win7, and the support from creative appears to be non-existent, the last driver update was may 09 for my card.
I therefore decided to bite the bullet and forked out for a new ASUS Xonar DX (PCIe) card, and now il-2 is working perfect. The support from ASUS is a lot better.
I think the creative card was about

Hey guys
Thanks for your replies.
Heres the thing, and really what Im trying to find out.
EAX requires hardware acceleration, which is not in win 7, now (If I understand correctly)
and An Audigy card, uses the CPU, to produce the EAX, since there's no Hardware acc. it produces, EAX incorrectly
But if Im right, X-fi's have hardware acc. built into the card, therefore bypassing 7. and restoring correct EAX.
Im sorry Slipper, I believe exe audio, is one of the X-fi's with out hardware acc. built in.
And again I know my card supports EAX up to 3 but it does it off the cpu (again not in 7)
Im gonna mess with the force EAX, but Im still looking if exe gamer, will do what Im looking for
Thank you guys very much
Moxy
