Total Beginner: I need some things explaining? - 827sterling - 08.12.2009

Im completley new to this and need some things explaining, so be gentle especially with the jargon! Right here goes, i would like to add some of the Mods and bits on this forum (new aircraft etc...). The way i see it is i need to install the Unified Installer 1.1 (which i have down loaded) yes? I have a box fresh copy of IL2 1946 V4.07m but before i can install the UI i need to install the 4.08m patch (which i have also downloaded) first OK? Is there anything else i need to do before i can get Modding as it were? I'm learning as i go so any advise would be more than welcome.

Thanks!!!!

Hi!
1) fresh install IL2-1946 v. 407
2)patch it to v.408
3)install UI 1.1
4)install UI 1.2
5)switch to 409b1m (wich is modded version with the 6DOF option if you've TrackIR)
6)play

You can add new mods puttin' them into MODS folder: be aware about incompatibility with others mods (don't change the UI folders name - if occur put in front of them this "-" so you simply disable it). If you want to add new planes read carefully readme files and many hints around the forum (they must be compatible with "buttons" file, and they require some line to be inserted into air.ini file). Order new mods namin' them so they're at top in MODS folder so they're loaded first.

Cheers

Thanks Guys!! - 827sterling - 08.12.2009

Thats great. Any other advise? Where can i get UI 1.2 from, is it the same sort of size as 1.1? And what does it do that 1.1 does not?

Cheers!!!

It gives you new mods and updates some of the old ones.

Why are y'all telling him to install 4.09b1m??? Thats just this side of retarded....

Since development of UI is pretty much kaput, wouldn't you think that HSFX or UP would be a better option for a newbie just getting into things?

827Sterling:

There are roughly 3 ways you can go. There are 3 main MOD packs out there. UI which is supported here on AAA, HSFX and UP which you can get support over at sas1946.com

The base game il2 1946 is patched up to version 4.09. Unfortunately UI 1.2 does not support 4.09. You can only install UI 1.2 over a beta of 4.09 which is called 4.09b1m. In my opinion this is a dead end.

The other two options HSFX4.1 and UP 1.8 are seperate mod packs in their own right that get installed over the top of 4.09. Between the 2, I personally prefer HSFX because of the great offline dynamic campaigns it has built in. HSFX and UP1.8 are 95% the same content wise.

Most of the "good-great" mods that are in the community have found their way into HSFX and UP. Anything you run across thats not in there can be easily added after the fact.

If you want to do some online flying, thats a whole other story, and you should identify the servers you want to fly on and start asking questions about what mods the specific servers are running. In the online world, it seems that every server does its own thing and there is no standard, so getting connected it a trial and error sort of thing. Most people have multiple installs of IL2 patched to different levels with different mods enabled for offline and online play.

4.07
4.08
4.09

HSFX4.0 + HSFX4.1
or
UP1.8
or
follow the advice from above and do the UI mod begining from the 4.08 patch level.

I would suggest making a backup copy of your IL2 folder once you get it patched to 4.08 whichever you choose. Once you start modding it, you'll be glad you have a clean backup.

Once again thanks! - 827sterling - 08.12.2009

Cheers Mudmarine

Right as i have downloaded 4.08m patch, UI1.1 and UI1.2 i'll go that route for now. I'll try when i get home from work!! Can't wait!!!!! I'll make a back up of IL2. HSFX sounds interesting but i've only just got my head round UI, but if its the future?? Online play is something i would like to try, but not at the mo. Last time i had a go on IL2 FB i got my arse handed to me!!!!! Can folk cheat with the online play LOL??

Thanks Again!

I am so glad you said what you did. I was thinking the same thing and came back to make a post like yours.
For the life of me I dont understand.
Confusedhoot:-------------------4.08m+4.09b1m its dead people
HSFX-V4.1 comes with a very LARGE offline set of missions.

Go for it. Like I suggested, make a backup copy of your folder first and have at it. The sheer number of planes the mod packs throw at you will blow you away. You'll spend a week trying out each plane in the quick mission builder (QMB). lol I did at least.

Once you get it running, you know where to go for questions. Your probably going to want to tune your conf.ini to make everything as pretty on screen as your computer can make it. hehe Enjoy!!

Mud

ps. when you have some free time check out sas1946.com for some info on HSFX and UP. I won't say anymore about them if you don't ask. I hate folks that preach. Big Grin
