[Download] P-38 Droop Snoot, 4 Pack - BBury - 10.12.2009

A special thanks to Loku (3D nose and texture re-mapping) and Monguse (3D work and mesh help), without thier help I would probably have never been able to bring you the P-38 Droop Snoot. And a thanks to Ranwers for his latest cockpit mod for this aircraft.

With that said here are some screens for a 4 Pack of historial textures of a few Droop Snoot conversions.

VERY good! Big Grin, is this plane related to the "[MOD] DROOP SNOOT - a little better pit" by Ranwers?

- Rowddy - 10.12.2009

was this a real plane in WW2? I never hear of it before tbh (but then again i'm not an expert but Smile)

- BBury - 10.12.2009

Alemart_el_Redentor, yes. This is the same mod that Ranwers made the new cockpit for.

Yes, there is a description in the game object viewer. At least there is supposed to be.

During the war, Droop Snoot nose kits were built and sent to any squadron that wanted a Droop Snoot to lead other P-38's, or any other fighter squadron like the 56th, to level bomb high threat targets from high altitude. The other planes would fly in formation and drop their bombs when the Droop Snoot signaled the drop. I don't know how many were actually built/converted but I have photo's of at least a dozen different examples. In the Pacific some had the bombsight removed and were configured with a comfortable chair to shuttle high ranking officers to forward bases. It was the fastest way to travel the long distances in the Pacific.

Very nice work Smile
Thank you very much and yes Rowdy, that plane flew in WWII...

The P-38 Droop Snoot was developed to act as a bomber leader for formations of standard P-38J fighter bombers. The original idea was proposed by two officers based at the 8th Air Force Headquarters
