Does the ILS system on board the 109 actually work ? - HusarDerLuft - 11.12.2009
Believe it or not, the 109 and most other german planes have an ILS, an
instrument landing system installed. I was wondering if it actually works in game. To me the needles dont move much. Is it actually working?
Even the heinkel 162 jet, a plane meant to be flown by HJ boys with gliding experience has the system installed. not bad for 1940-45 technology
As for automatic fire extinguishers, - I dont know if they are modeled in game. A bunch of planes including the A6M5b Zero had automatic fire extinguishers in the main fuel tanks. I was wondering if they work in game as well.
(and apart from the TB-3,.. that old ugly soviet bomber from 1933... I really dont know any other plane that does have fire extinguishers.. much less AUTOMATIC ones..
cheers

According to Billfish, the guru on the Ki-61, there should be extinguishers in its fuel tanks. In the game it is located in the engine, which is incorrect.
The Avia biplane has automatic extinguishers. I don't know of any other aircraft that use auto-extinguishers.
I don't believe the Zero had any form of extinguisher, at least not the early models, but I could be totally wrong here.
I have not tried the ILS for any aircraft, but it apparently works for the He-111 ( green dot instrument )

You are partially right.
The A6M5b and onwards had them installed in the main tanks. I read it in a pretty cool encycolpedia of planes I got.
This particular model was shot down in great numbers during the "Great Marianas turkey shoot" - perhaps you have heard of that event.
(though no fault of the aircraft.. it was mostly the inexperienced new pilots)

i think the gauge you are referring to is an elevator/aileron (maybe rudder) trim indicator, not a CDI/GS for shooting an ILS.
edit: no you are right. It's the AFN 2 Radio Homing Device used for navigating to a runway. Wouldn't call it an ILS though, a lot more rudimentry in reality than that. I think I read on the UBI forums that it worked when the game was first released. But may work still on only the Bf110?

Is that what the
Green Dot instrument inside the Heinkel 111 bomber is? Look at that cockpit....its on the top left corner.. a round thing with a green dot ... seems to be working. Im trying to figure out how to use that.
PS: in the Aircraft Guide PDF file inside your Il-2 folder,.. you'll see that they call it " Pilot's direction indicator"
